<snip>

It looks like this is a Base/Mobile version of the PRO-97 portable.

It also features the Signal Stalker II feature.

From its appearance, it looks like it's a non-digital cousin of the PRO-2096.

If it does alpha tags & ctcss/dcs, and uniden does not come out with a mobile 246T at Dayton, I'll buy two :)

Where are the FCC documents that are usually released when a radio is accepted? I would like to see the pics and other data.

It is a shame that RadioShack didn't make this model a real base scanner. It looks like a slightly stripped down version of the PRO-2096. With the eBay price of the 2096 sinking towards $350 and lower, the 2055 doesn't look seem to be much of a bargain.

I agree. I am saving for a 96 which is about $350 NIB according to the seller. Why buy a 1000 channel scanner when you can get 5500 channels with V folders and digital!

I like the looks of the 2055 and the 97 but the price isn't much cheaper than the digi scanners!

Also, where are you getting the type acceptance information? Have a link?

Is it me or does it look like it has the same screen as the 2067 and the 2096? I wonder how it will do when you clone a Pro-97?

I suspect it's a base/mobile clone of the PRO-97, so it would clone easily. The Win97 SW will likely be for the 2055 also.

What I ment was with the different screen, the smaller 2067/2096 size and not the larger 97/99 screen, what will happen to the text tags?

The same thing that happens to them on the PRO-2096?

I guess I don't understand your question.

The 96/2096 screen has only room for 12 spaces on each line. The 97/99 have 16 spaces on each line. By the looks of the photo of the 2055 it has the same screen as the 2096. How will you get 16 spaces on to a 12 space screen?

I see now. Maybe it's going to use a more compact LCD matrix.

It does look like it may be slightly wider than the 2096, but not 33% wider like the PRO-97 over the '96. Maybe it will scroll them. 8)

The new XM radios can scroll to show full song info :)

I wish they could use a display like the 2053 I just got another one to use as a mobile, just for that reason.

This brings up an interesting question, could you put the "guts" of a Pro-95 into a 2053 to beef it up to the 95's 1000 channels? Just a thought since I just sent in my 93 to get fixed.

Pro 2055

Great scanner and great listing! Is there a confirmed date that the Pro 2055 will be released at Radio Shack? I see it also has Silk Stalker 2. Is it similar to the Pro 97 just curious? When it comes out will it be replacing any of the Radio Shack Scanners? I already have the Pro 2052 it works great and mine is only 1 year old. It looks like the Pro 2096! I've been noticing the only scanners that have 500 channels are the Pro 92 and the Pro 99. I look forward to hearing about more information about the Pro 2055.

2051 vs 2055?

What are the differences between these two scanners. I don't see much. It must just be me. Will the 2055 do alpha tags? If so, that is one difference, but what else.

Read the specs of each one and you will see ALL the differences.

I like the fact that you can set it up to be a base just as you do with the PRO-2096. The 2055 will be a great compliment on the bench next to the digital version.

Sure wish GRE would include computer controls on these models. Maybe Optoelectronics will do and interface board for these units. Should be enough room in the case for this.
