Any word on whether there will be an upgrade that will allow monitoring of 380 MHz systems?

Shoot me square in the head if this has already been covered, but I searched...

Not likely since those frequencies are not in the official list (given to the FCC) of supported frequencies for the radio.

I'd recomend looking at the antenna connection on the inside, but they have that sheild thing on there, you may need to touch it up with a sodier iron. Is it on a certain band?

The radio shack antenna is geared towards 800 MHz. Try putting your original antenna back on and see if you still get the bad reception.

The 800 MHz antenna perforance is not as good as the stock duck on VHF High Band.

Duditz511:
Based on what you describe, and not being there, consider the following:
  • New adjacent channel interference (like a new VHF paging sytem).
A change in the TV cable in your home, maybe you have developed a leak somewhere.
Less likely but possible, a change in FM broadcast transmission nearby, like an increase in power or a new station.

If you know the freqs. you can enter them using win96 and checking the extended frequency box in the first page. I can monitor Dover AFB within 5 miles. All are in the 380 range

I can monitor/hear the frequencies, but I can't trunk track them. Are you saying that you're able to track them? What type of system is it? EDACS or Motorola?

All of us who have tried cant trunk track them either using the Pro96. By removing the delay you cna usually keep up with the conversation. It is a Motorola system of a special digital type but by using the Pro 96 set in FM mode it will decode the digital.

Thanks for your replies and I will try those suggestions, I did try the stock antenna and It worked a lot worse than the 800MHz one.

But thanks!

If your radio is out of warranty and you feel comfortable changing the antenna connecter in your radio, I have found with the GRE's that they use a very fragile BNC... instead of a full contact there are two small wires some what embedded in the insulator, after a few on-off cycles with the antenna these wires are pushed into the insulation.... might think about changing to a full-contact BNC......

That is probably where I'll buy but just want to make sure they aren't going to go on sale first. And with Ebay you never know exactly what you are getting! I want the latest 1.3 CPU and in GREAT Condition

Just received Pro-96 for Fathers day! Checked it out and looks like the latest CPU is now 1.4.

CPU: F1.4
DSP-APP: F1.2
DSP-VOC: F1.0

While you are technically correct, there is no difference (to the user) between 1.3 and 1.4. No bugs were fixed. It's just a different version to accomodate different hardware. Someone with 1.4 has nothing over someone with 1.3.

I don't recall the exact release date, but when the original post you replied to was made over two months ago, 1.3 probably WAS the latest.

RE: Poor reception on some channels.

Is the problem with ALL systems in the same band (800?)? If it seems to be affect only one system, maybe they have made changes to their rado system (directional antennas, a voting system that selects repeaters closest to the mobile unit for which the traffic is intended or other performance factors).

As a "newbie" I rather jumped to conclusions. After looking further on this site I "discovered" that. Electronics moves so quickly now that I guess even in such a short time there are changes.
Thanks
John
