That is probably where I'll buy but just want to make sure they aren't going to go on sale first. And with Ebay you never know exactly what you are getting! I want the latest 1.3 CPU and in GREAT Condition

Just received Pro-96 for Fathers day! Checked it out and looks like the latest CPU is now 1.4.

CPU: F1.4
DSP-APP: F1.2
DSP-VOC: F1.0

While you are technically correct, there is no difference (to the user) between 1.3 and 1.4. No bugs were fixed. It's just a different version to accomodate different hardware. Someone with 1.4 has nothing over someone with 1.3.

I don't recall the exact release date, but when the original post you replied to was made over two months ago, 1.3 probably WAS the latest.

As a "newbie" I rather jumped to conclusions. After looking further on this site I "discovered" that. Electronics moves so quickly now that I guess even in such a short time there are changes.
Thanks
John

Yep - scanners are quickly becoming like computers:

So you say you bought that scanner last week?
Throw it away, man, 'cause it's an antique :!:

Don't believe this applies to all shops, but I was visiting the mustang, ok store today. Clerk said pro-96 was on sale for $399. I didn't actually SEE the sale tag though.

Felt kinda ill, just bought a used one off ebay for $395 w/ bats & cable.

also there is scannermaster.com, they've been for sale there for $439.99 for a while.

Sorry to disappoint, but no sale on it yet. That mustang store was wrong in the price they quoted. If I get wind of the scanner going on sale, I'll let everyone know.

As far as the back cover goes, here is what my computer says.

12410809 <-- (The RSU number for it if anyone wants to call their local RadioShack)
CASE ASSY REAR $17.69
Not In Stock
NON REPAIRABLE CONSISTS OF: CASE REAR GRIP (L)/(M)/(S) LABEL MODEL TAPE ADHESIVE FOR GRIP(L) TAPE ADHESIVE FOR GRIP(M) TAPE ADHESIVE FOR GRIP(S)

Looks like it's just out of stock, things go in and out of stock all the time on the RSU ordering. I'll check periodically and when they are back in stock, I'll post and let everyone know.

Hey Matt...just wanted to say I think it's great what you're doing! It's almost impossible to find out that kind of information, not to mention having someone send you a heads-up on it! I for one appreciated your efforts, as I think you provide a valuable service to the group...as well as Radio Shack. I'm sure others will agree!

Thank you :!:

Anyone send in there 96 for the CPU upgrade recently? I have one of the first 96's and now a system I monitor has some 4xxx talk groups now. I was wanting a guess on the turnaround time for getting my 96 back.

Which system? Is it analog or digital? If it's digital, it doesn't matter, as the bug does not exist for digital systems. Also, it's only about 8 TGs in the 48xxx range that are affected, not the 4xxx range.

Change the Alpha Tag for the frequency to whatever you want it to say.

I have my alpha tags for the talkgroup on the 4th line lou.
In magazines I see XXXXTRS on the 3rd line for the system name, then the alpha tag on the bottom line for the talkgroup.

Yes, well I didn't say anything about talk groups. I said change the alpha tag for the frequency.

I think what you want is accomplished by tagging the control channel frequency. That way, whenever there's a transmission, no matter what frequency, it'll always show the system name.

If you are using Win 96 as you darn well should be  This is what you want to tag so it will show up on the third line. Or whatever you want in there.

I should clarify. It's not exactly a squeal.
Remember the tone that was sent when the "emergency broadcast system" did a test? That is what it is. More of a tone than a squeal. I apologize for the mis-statement.
I have to have the antenna connected also. It seams like the county I'm listening to it doing this, but it's not.
It's hard to explain but none of my other scanners do it.
I just hate the idea of sending it out and doing without for weeks.

Anyway, I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem.
Thanks for the replies.

Mike

Mine does the same thing! It did not start happening until I had it for a year, so of course it is out of warranty. It only does it on the Indiana SAFE-T digital system. My Unidens do not do that so that makes me think it's the radio.

What is the procedure for sending it in for repair? Just ship to address in owners' manual?

Help with Pro 96

I am new to RadioReference and not even sure if I am posting this correctly, but I need help. Does anyone have a Win 96 file for the Houston, Texas/Katy area? I have donated to this site, but it won't clear until Tuesday and I was hoping to try to figure out this scanner a little better before then. I am new to scanners, but am trying really hard to figure out the instruction manual without a lot of success. Thanks, TJ

Joion the Yahoo group for the Pro96 at Yahoo.com. There may be several groups. When you join and are accepted they have a various Pro96 files for different cities and areas of the US. Good luck

Thanks Guys...I got a file yesterday and uploaded it into the scanner, however, I don't have any idea how to get it to scan using that programming. when I hit scan, it says "all channels are locked." I think I need to give up and go back to AM radios!
