Noticing in the virtual scanner work window, it's not the clearest about how to load files into the filename area.. I found it accidentaly by clicking WRITE, but maybe something a little more obvious? I kept clicking on the filename area and nothing.

Also noticed that when the filename load window kept popping up, it would not 'remember' where the last directory was it loaded from, would make life easier when loading vscanner files when needed.

To Read data in scanner V-Folders click any or all 20 Read boxes then click Refresh.
Press F1 Exit
To Write Win500 file(s) to V-Folders click Write on desired V-Folder(s), select the file(s) for each then click Commit.
Press F1 Exit

'Refresh' only retrieves the names from the scanner, telling you what's in each V-Folder. It doesn't read the V-Folder data itself. You have to click 'Commit' to actually perform any Read, Clear, or Write operation.
Press F1 Exit
To Write Win500 file(s) to V-Folders click Write on desired V-Folder(s), select the file(s) for each then click Commit.
Press F1 Exit
Pressing F1 on the radio shouldn't be necessary. I definitely wouldn't press it between operations in the same Win500 V-Scanner "session", because it causes a scanner reboot. When you leave Win500's V-Scanner mode, Win500 does tell the scanner to "exit".

Regarding 1.09 . . . notes populated ok from Web import. But after saving, closing, then reopening, the fields are all populated with garbage characters.
Found and fixed, and will be in 1.10 soon.

Newbie: Need Help In Getting Started With Program, Please

Hi,

Oh boy, do I feel dumb to have to ask, but...

Have been playing with the software, but can't seem to get started with it.

I can communicate with the scanner via a USB Port; have verified that.
But I'm not even up to uploading any freq's to it yet.

I have the page that says New Template, and I have clicked on the CONV Tab.

But everything seems greyed out, and I cannot see how to actually enter any freq's.
The Column headings are there and show, but that's about it; won't allow me to do anything from this point.

So, if anyone could please show me how to at least enter some Conv. freq's into the program, would be most grateful.

Not too sharp with this stuff, and the very specific steps would be most helpful; assume I'm a complete idiot.

BTW: is there a HELP file somewhere ?

Thanks,
Bob

Take a look at the EDIT options at the top. CTRL+SHIFT+N will also work.

Don has said that a help file is on his short list.

To add a new CONV object, right-click in the "CONV" grid and select "Insert Item" or "New Item at end".

Similar for new TSYS, TGRP, and SRCH/SWPR objects.

From the Win500 web page, under "Planned Features":
A "Help" file

Copy & Paste ?

Hi,

Thanks for help; appreciate it.

Might have inquired about this before, but not sure.
If I did, I apologize.
In my 70's now, and I tend to lose track sometimes.

Anyway,

Have lots of frequencies in Butel's Arc996 which I use to program my 996.

Any way of transferring the freq's and their alpha tags to this program ?
Via a Copy and Paste from Arc 996 to here, e.g.

If not, in the "near" future ?

Thanks,
Bob

Win500 allows pasting of tab-delimited lines of text from external sources. Any "spreadsheet-like" program should support that format, and I would guess that Arc996 does.

You could always try a copy/paste from Arc996 to Win500 and report results (including success or failure).

From OP: Copy And Paste ?

Hi Don,

Tried playing around with it as you suggested, but every time I try to paste
either a (conv.) freq., or the alpha tag, or both, the program seems to close out on me ?

Any idea what I might be doing wrong, or what is happening ?

Thanks,
Bob

You uncovered a newly-introduced bug in the "Paste" code.

Version 1.11 fixes this, and is available on the Win500 web page.

New Version Installation ?

Hi Don,

Thanks for all the help.

When I download a new version, do I have to un-install or delete the old version first, or just open up the new one as if it was the first time the program was ever used ?

Or,... ?

Thanks,
Bob

Just download the new ZIP file and extract it right on top of the files you previously extracted. No need to delete any existing files or data.

EDIT: If you've done any "customization" of the Win500 user interface (displayed columns, column widths, main window position or size, etc.), you may want to avoid extracting the 'INI' file from the downloaded ZIP.

Hello,

Using a WUXGA screen with 1920x1200 resolution, there is a Column Height Issue where I cannot see the column Tags if the Tags are 2 lines. I made an edit to the Win500 Configuration File: ListRowHeight=18. I am aware of the warning listed on top of Config File.

Using the new edit, I am able to see all the Column Tags, and the program runs fine. So much for high resolution screens, but I love the real estate on the screen for spread sheets, etc. :D

You can make that change within Win500: Configuration, User Interface, List Row Height. That change is actually the first thing to try if the 2-line column headers don't show up correctly.

Hey Don - help me understand what's happening here:

I set up a couple of TGs in one scanlist to be PRIORITY via the 500 GUI. I enabled PRI (FUNC-PRI). Scan worked normally and all was well.

I downloaded my config via v 1.11 made some changes and pushed it back out to the radio.

After the upload to the radio, I'm now noticing two things that I didn't see before the upload:
1. a distinct "break" in voice comms when the radio jumps to check PRI channels (which is very annoying)
2. a message being displayed on the scanlist/system line of the radio saying "Priority Check"

One of two things is happening here -- either the settings I made via the radio user interface didn't work as expected or Win500 is doing something more than just enabling the PRI checks that the radio does..

Do you have any CONV objects with PRI turned on? If so, it sounds like they're now enabled for scanning. The behavior you describe is exactly what I'd expect if I had CONV / PRI objects, not locked out, in enabled scan lists.

Bob-

Have you had an opportunity to download 1.11 and give the copy/paste a try? If so, did it work for you?
