I have noticed when I import a large system, WIN500 doesnt pre-calculate duplicate frequencies.
Done for next release (later today).

2nd issue, I am getting no audio with the remote client.
I set up the server and can control the scanner no problem. I enabled the controllable and enabled feature. I can connect with the client on another laptop, see the data and is controllable but there is no audio.

This is in my lan with no firewall. I left the Audio Input device as default and tried selecting my sound card. In my sound card I ensured none of the sliders were muted.

I have not registered yet as I am evaluating that the functions work prior to paying.
Maybe audio does not work without a key????
The trial version is fully-functional, and should give you audio.

1. Do you have an audio cable connected between your scanner's headphone jack and a Mic or Line input on your sound card?
2. Do you hear the scanner's audio "live" from your PC speakers?
3. Can you "record" audio in Win500's Monitoring tab? (To test this, be sure to enable some object's REC option, then turn on both Logging and Recording in the Monitoring tab.)
4. Can you get audio from my Win500 server? (home.starrsoft.com, port 26755)

There's a little more info in this post and this one .

Saving country / state in web import

I've added code to save the last "Name" fields (described above) for Country and State.

In the trunked and conventional import dialogs, after you hit the "START" button, Win500 will get the list of countries from RR and populate the drop-down list box. If the stored Country name is not empty, Win500 will then search for and select that country (if found). You can then hit TAB to move to the State field. Win500 will then repeat this process for the stored State name, so you can then hit TAB to move to the County field for the stored state.

The end result is: each time you open a Web Import session, you can get to the County list for the last Country/State by:
1. TAB TAB TAB to move to START button
2. SPACE to 'click' the START button
3. TAB to select the 'remembered' country and move to the state field
4. TAB to select the 'remembered' state and move to the county field

If the RR DB changes such that the stored country or state names are no longer valid (i.e. "not found" in the lists of data returned by RR), the first failed item will be left at the "-- select --" entry and the stored name will be cleared.

This version (1.46) will be up later today.

Cool and thanks. Will give it a try.

Version 1.46 is up on the web site. The changes are:
  • Added pre-import check for duplicate frequencies in the RadioReference Web Import for trunking systems. The "too many frequencies" message that appears is now based on unique frequencies, not just "all selected" frequencies.
  • Web Import now remembers the last country and state selected. You can TAB key through them after hitting the START button instead of having to select from the drop-down list boxes.

Scan Lists Question

Hi Don

I have a question about the way scan lists are presented in Win500. I used my Win96 file to originally program my PSR-600 with Win500. After doing that have 9 scan lists that show up under the All Objects tab in Win500. I'd like to now start adding some objects in scan lists 11- 20, but they don't show up as available in the All Objects tab? The show scan lists boxes for 11-20 are all checked on the right hand side.

I'm probably misssing something simple here, but thought I would ask.

Thanks!

You need to create new objects, then assign them to scan lists.

For example, to create a new conventional channel object in scan list 12, you'd select the CONV tab, then select "New Item at End". A new CONV object will be created with default values. Change the frequency, alpha tag, etc. to the desired values, then use the controls to the right of the grid to set the object's Scan List membership, etc.

Win500help.chm

Just downloaded Win500 with Winzip. First it wouldn't load (error message) "Cannot find import DLL may be missing, corrupt, or wrong version file WinXXcommon.dll error 126. After re-downloading got it to run with some blank portions in the program displays. Also I didn't get the help file. Where can I download Win500help.chm. Couldn't find it on Win500 website. Also can someone give me some guidance on where I can find a new WinXXcommon.dll to download. Getting the new 500 tomorrow and am anxious to learn the win500 software.

Thanks

Don,

Would it be possible/feasible (and would you be willing) to add some information to the log file that is generated when controlling the radio?

Right now it logs the active VC that a TGID is on. How about having it log the VC, the TGID and the CC of the system?

I ask because I have ran into occasions where it has logged a VC that I thought to be part of one system but it ends up being the part of another system.

It would also be handy (in a case like mine where I monitor 7 sites from home) because if a new system frequency comes up that isn't listed on RR, we know (by looking at the CC) what site that new VC belongs to.

Pretty please? :)

It would be possible, but I'll have to investigate how feasible it is. Due to how the radio sends that information to the PC/IF port, it may be difficult for a PC app to log it with any degree of reliability.

Did you extract the contents of the downloaded ZIP file to a new, empty directory? Or are you trying to run it from within the ZIP file? The latter won't work.
After re-downloading got it to run with some blank portions in the program displays.
The "blank portions" should be the various object grids - because you don't yet have any objects programmed. Right-clicking in any of those grids will bring up a menu from which you can add new objects (exception: you can't add objects in the "All Objects" grid).
Also I didn't get the help file. Where can I download Win500help.chm. Couldn't find it on Win500 website.
There isn't a help file yet. I'm working on it.

The DLL in the ZIP file is the correct one. Just extract all of the files in the ZIP to a new, empty directory, then launch Win500.EXE from that directory.

Win500 - checksum error

Imported files from Pr096. Loaded pro96 files sucessfully into V-Scan folder 00. When I try to upload to scanner the scanner screen reports checksum error. I also got the same message plus notation that download is 81% complete and scanner suggests to cancel operation when I try to import Palmetto 800 (South Carolina) files from RR data base. When I try to get the scanner to scan I get the message "nothing enabled" in both instances.

With no help file or any directions what so ever I have no earthly idea what I'm doing. Can anybody get me started so I can use this new radio. FRUSTRATION!!!!!

Wildcard question - Win 500

I NOW know that new entries by default are mapped as wildcard entries in scan list 01 on the PRS500.

Before learning that I used scan list 01 as a regular scan list w/talkgroups. Is there a way to map the wildcard to default to another scan list using Win500?

If not, what do I need to do to get back the wildcard feature?

The "Default Scan List" item at the top-left of Win500's "General Settings" tab. This is the same as the "Dflt ScanList" item in the PSR-500's "GLOB" menu.

wim500 HELP

I am totally lost trying to program my scanner with win500. I don't understand wildcards or mapping. I'm trying to program a statewide 800 multisite smartzone system. I live in South Carolina and the system is the Palmetto TRS ( in RR database). I have read the PSR500 user manual several times but it hasn't helped. I have managed to import the system from RR, but I'm not sure I did it correctly. I am receiving radio traffic from the TRS. Is there anyone out there who is familiar with win500 that would be willing to send me their phone number via private e-mail so I could call you for some help?

New Import Bug?

Hi, I'm using 1.47 and when I try to import the following from RR, it gives me an error yet PSRedit works.

file->web import->radio reference.com->convential
country=canada
state/province=ontario
county=provincewide

error=The data returned by RadioReference.com contained no sub-category information!

When I make the same selections via PSRedit, I get the groups for frequencies.

Can you check it out Don?

Thanks,

Rob

You get them in Win500, too. The first "error" means that there were no categories directly under the "provincewide" selection, and you have to select an "agency".

Some "County" selections will yield their own sets of categories, before you select an "agency". Canada / Ontario / Provincewide does not. Merely dismiss the error and select an "Agency" from the list.
