Lastly, does the scan list name field on the 'general' tab of Win500 actually cooralate to anything that gets programmed into the scanner, or is that for my 'own' reference?

This name shows up briefly (on the bottom line) when you toggle the scan list on and off.

Help With New Win 500 Features

Can anyone explain these 2 features to me?

Auto create tgrps from wildcard hits and

Auto create tgrps from Radio ID's?

I enabled these 2 features and nothing happened. Does this mean that the radio will automatically store a new tgrp id instead of me having to hit the store button?

When you are running in monitor mode, it will do so. But only in the software.

?

I don't really understand what you just said, can you explain it to me as if I was an idiot (which I am with this software)?

When you are using the software to monitor (and control) the radio, the "Auto create tgrps from wildcard hits" will add the "new" talkgroup to the file you currently have open (not the radio itself). The other feature does the same for radio IDs.

The "file you have open" should be the same file you loaded the radio with or it won't match up.

Maybe assign to all three list, and have tags without reference to A, B or C.

fmon,

Again, thanks for the help & the quick replies. After thinking about this for an hour or so, I'm going to leave the 3 systems as individual TSYS objects with the statewide TGID's duplicated (I'm no where near running out of objects on this first v-folder).

I have the luck to be in the full-scale coverage area of the one TX site that simultaneously streams both Troops B & C. Doing the multi-site option on the TSYS won't work for me...:(

Editing Option Suggestion

Hi Don,

Would it be possible, or practical, to consider adding the ability to change the Alpha Tag
text directly from the Find Duplicates listing that comes up when you search for any duplicates ?

Reason being, if there's a big duplicates list, which I sometimes have, I would like to sometimes combine a bit of text from the two, or more, duplicates alpha tags into the one that I actually do save.

Would be a lot easier without having to go back to the regular listings, find it, and change there.

Thanks,
Bob

Hey Don,

I am (or was) using V 1.51 and encountered an issue.

When I used the "Find Duplicate Frequencies" function, it scanned the list and found the dupes with no problem. But when I selected the "delete" button, nothing happened, the dupes remained. Because it gave me the object numbers, I just went and deleted one of them, and set the required scanlists for the other.

I also have a request. When making adjustments to my scanlists, it would be helpful if I could be able to view just the objects associated with one particular scanlist. For instance, if I wanted to see all the objects in scanlist #8, I would like to be able to do that. What I found is, by sorting by scanlist, objects that are in scanlist #'s 1, 4 & 8 appear at different locations in the view screen, which is seperate from the bulk of objects in the view of objects that are contained ONLY in scanlist #8 (if I scroll directly to it), at least when using the "CONV Objects" tab.

I did discover that you can view all the objects in a particular scanlist under the "ALL Objects" tab, but you can't edit scanlists there. Perhaps you could add something to the "Sort Objects" function under the "Edit" drop down menu, to select just one scanlist?

Just my user preference...thanks for all your hard work...Your Software ROCKS!!! and so does this scanner.

Paul

P.S. I upgraded to V 1.55 today.

Hey Don,

If GRE would come out with a two letter like En on the display instead of Dg for encrypted comms in your Monitor/Control could you add a feature that would skip over/scan on when it stopped on En comms. Our way some departments En dispatch and not the cars, it's a pain listening to both, and have to keep on hitting the scan button? I don't know if GRE is thinking about this addition or would, it would be a nice to have it included in the future. Just looking for your feelings on it.

When you click the "Delete" button in the "duplicates" dialog, any selected (highlighted) items are marked for deletion. They'll show up in red when not selected. When you actually click the "OK" button in that dialog, the flagged (red) items will be deleted.

I'll investigate sorting by specific scan lists in the CONV, TGRP, and SRCH grids. It's not trivial, though.

I presume you're referring to either talkgroups in P25 systems, or "conventional" channels that happen to be digital. The scanner should already ignore "encrypted" communications on Mot 3600 systems that use P25 voice, if the system flags the communications as encrypted in the "status bits".

The scanner, at present, doesn't know the encrypted/clear status of P25 CAI voice. If GRE made such a change, though, it would likely just skip encrypted comms. There would be no 'En' display, since the scanner wouldn't stop on the transmission in the first place. (Though, I suppose it's possible that the scanner could stop on the transmission, display 'En', and leave audio muted.)

Don, I'm using the data log option on the Monitor / log tab. The first time I used it, it worked fine the next time it didn't work and it was asking me "Log directory does not exist Please create it or select another" Am I doing something wrong?

How about a drop-down list box next to the CONV and TGRP grids... "Show Scan List", with 23 items:
All
Scan List 01
Scan List 02
...
Scan List 20
FAV (Scan List 21)
SKY (Scan List 22)

You'd choose either "All" (which would show you everything, as it does now), or exactly one scan list to display. If you select anything but "All", you'd only see CONV or TGRP objects that are in that selected scan list.

If that would work, it would be pretty easy. I'd just have to figure out where to put it on the TSYS tab (it's pretty crowded around the TGRP grid).

Don, what is the Sky check box in Win500 used for or what does it do?

In the "All Objects" tab, it controls whether objects in the "Skywarn" scan list are displayed.

In all other tabs, it controls whether the selected object(s) are in the "Skywarn" scan list.

The Skywarn scan list is just another scan list, like 01-20 or FAV. The only difference is that the Skywarn scan list is only "scanned" when you hit FUNC + WX (similar to how the FAV scan list is only "scanned" when you hit the FAV key).

Don, I have made the skywarn frequencies in the conv obj list but my GRE600 does not have a sky button, my question is: How do I access it?
