Can you connect to my public server?
Addr: home.starrsoft.com
Port: 26755

If you can connect, then the problem is with either your Win500 server setup or your local networking environment (firewalls, NAT, etc.).

I am able to connect via the client. -Russell

Duplicating An Alpha Tag ?

Hi,

Let me blame this on old age.
Just can't remember how to.

If I have an Alpha tag that I want to duplicate in, e.g., the next 20 items down in the column, how do I do it, please ?

What key(s) do I hold down, etc. ?

Thanks,
Bob

Yeah I was able to connect to your server with no problems. I tried using the same port you are using on mine with no luck. Maybe I'll try using noip.org and see if that works.

Thanks for the quick reply!

For Don: Suggestions

Hi Don,

Just two thoughts for the future.
Both are not very important, but just something to add to the list, perhaps.

a. When a Search turns up a bunch of items, what do you think about having all the results presented in a single screen (as an option) ?

b. Really trivial, but a small window display of how many alpha tag, etc. letters have been put in while you are typing would be nice. Would eliminate having to count them, or re-edit them.

Thanks,
Bob

How about a merge file option? I would love to open a file and then open another file to append or merge the two. I know copy and paste works, but that's not what I had in mind. Or how export/import to text?

Thanks,
Russell

Setting flash interval- PRS500

Have PSR500 & am using Win500 software. Under extended settings I have checked " Show trunked channel with VC". it blinks too fast for me to read. Can some one tell me exactly how to increase the display time. I'll need indepth directions--I'm new to this.

Thanks,

On Win500's "General Settings" tab, increase the LCD Blink ON and OFF items. They're in 100 mS steps, so the defaults of 50/150 mean "show primary field for 500 mS, show secondary field for 1.5 S".

Mr. Starr,

Thanks for your rapid response. I set theLCD blink to 100/200. It worked perfectly.

Thanks again.

Audio problems on remote connection

Done for next release (later today).

The trial version is fully-functional, and should give you audio.

1. Do you have an audio cable connected between your scanner's headphone jack and a Mic or Line input on your sound card?
2. Do you hear the scanner's audio "live" from your PC speakers?
3. Can you "record" audio in Win500's Monitoring tab? (To test this, be sure to enable some object's REC option, then turn on both Logging and Recording in the Monitoring tab.)
4. Can you get audio from my Win500 server? (home.starrsoft.com, port 26755)

There's a little more info in this post and this one .

I am actually having the same problem as this fellow. For me I have:
1. a PC with the Win500 software installed
2. a PSR 500 scanner connected by the usb cable supplied in the box
3. an audio cable running from the headphone jack of the scanner to the input jack on my sound card

Results:
a) I can get audio on my PC. The scanner audio is pipped through the speakers correctly
b) I can get the monitor/remote server running correctly
c) I can connect to the server remotely
d) I can see remotely that the scanner is running and scanning. But when it lands on a object there's no audio on the client.
e) I don't believe the audio record function is working for me.
f) On the server I tried using the windows audio record program, and it seemed to record dead air, even though i could hear the scanner on the computers speakers.

I tried the the starsoft scanner link in the monitor client and i can hear your audio fine. This seems specific with my computer set up.

In Win500 (on the machine connected to the scanner), have you tried changing the "Audio input device" from the Configuration menu?

Before trying to use Win500, though, it might be good to use the Windows "sound recorder" app (as you've already done) to verify that you can record audio from the scanner. If you can't get past that, it will be difficult to get Win500 working.

How do I upgrade to the current version of Win500 from an older version of Win500? I see that there are instructions for upgrading WIn97 and Win96 on the pages for them at starrsoft.com and it says to upload the program to the folder where it is run and it will overwrite the program. Do I do this or do I have to download the program as if I never had it.

Will I have to pay for the new program (I paid for it when iI originally downloaded it.)?

Just download the ZIP file from the Win500 web site and extract the EXE and DLL into your current Win500 directory, overwriting the "old" copies of those two files.

No

DonS,

Thanks, I followed your instructions and everything went fine. The software really helps programming the radio.

Don,

I would suggest another change be made if it is possible. On the general setting tab the scan lists, welcome text, battery settings, and quick text boxes are small and hard to work with. Changing the welcome text is problematic as you can't see the entire message except when it is highlighted in tan and this is just a one line at a time situation. It would be helpful if, when the program is enlarged to full screen, the boxes for these four functions expanded to a full view of the items in those boxes. When the full screen expansion is made there is a lot of unused space on the right and bottom of the screen.

You could keep the boxes the same size when the program is in the smaller screen view, but keeping them the same size in the larger screen view results in some unnecessary manipulation in making changes.

I don't know if this issue has come up before because, frankly, I don't have the patience at this point to read through almost 800 posts to find out. Please forgive me.

I have a new GRE PSR-600 and tonight I downloaded my first TSYS from RR and then uploaded it to the scanner using WIN500 VO1.56 (trial version). Everything went as I think it should, however, the alpha tag for each TG that was downloaded is far too long to display in the scanner's display window. The system is UCAN's (SYSID: 7202) in Utah. After comparing what was downloaded to the RR Db, I found that what I got as the TGs' alpha tags is actually in the Db as the TGs' Description. It downloaded the wrong text field.

For instance, here is the data for 7202. Scroll down a short way to TGID 352. The Db shows an alpha tag as "SLSO Req 1" but what I ended up with in the download was "Salt Lake County Sheriff Request 1." Actually, all that is displayed in the scanner's window is "Salt Lake County" and there are several SLSO TGs so they all show the same in the window and cannot be distinguished one from the others.

How can I correct that without going through all the TGs in the WIN500 folder manually making changes?

EDIT TO ADD: There is not help file! There was not a help file in the folder after extraction from the zip file download.

EDIT AGAIN TO ADD: I just read here that there is not a help file but that it is a work in progress. That is good to know.

After you hit the IMPORT THIS SYSTEM button the "Web Impot Settings" window opens. You need to select the second option under "Talk Group Alpha Tag Format".
Thank you, sir. I guess that is what happens when you try to do things too fast and you are not familiar with the software.
