In Win500, go to Configuration and then serial port. I had to start with comm port 1 ( Use the up arrow to change ) and I got comm 3 to work with my computer. Try them all until you get the one to work. Subcribe to this forum, then you can import your channels correctly by the feature in win 500. That process is file then web import. I tried to enter the channels manually and had some trouble. I then subcribed to RR and used the web import and it went smoothly. Thanks to hoser for helping me out.

I hope that helps?

Lorin

Hmmm . . . What happens when you go to Configuration and then Find PSR-500/600 Serial Port... instead of your trial and error method?

From the Win500 Revision History posted with v. 1.52 25June2008: "Added "Find PSR-500/600 Serial Port" item to the Configuration menu. Selecting it will automatically find any PSR-500 or PSR-600 that is currently connected to the PC, and will store the "found" COM port as the Win500 default. "

Come to think of it, the easiest/cheapest (for everyone except Mike and Rick) option would be to have Win500 send the data to a UDP port on the local machine. PRO96COM and UniTrunker, if modified, could then read datagrams from a "well-known PSR-500 port" as if it was a COM port.
This is what I prefer and have talked to Rick about it a bit. I believe Rick has it on the back burner.

This sure is a lot more complicated than Win95. Now it wont let me the put the EDACS I have in the scanner to the software. It says 'Timed Out' and can't communicate.
Any ideas?

I didn't find 'ports' in my device manager. Do you need to turn off the scanner before you hook up the cable? If I remember right with the PRO95 you could plug & unplug any time, and the scanner operated while hooked up.

personally, I use my TCPMux program as a "gateway" between the server and client. If the server goes down, TCPMux automatically retries forever. The connection between the client and TCPMux is never affected.

Yes I set mine up the same way using TCPMux on the remote machine and it connects to my home pc which also is running TCPMux. TCPMux at home is connected to the Win500 server and on the remote machine the client connects to the TCPMux program. Thanks to comcast my internet drops occasionally for a couple minutes several times a day. I was hoping when the TCPMux program on the remote machine reconnected with the one at home that everything would be fine but when the connection drops the client never gets any of the data from the server even though the TCPMux programs are reconnected and communicating. This is my reasoning for having the client detect a disconnect and automatically try reconnecting. But making it a user selectable option of course. I really appreciate your willingness to change things based on all of our input. The software is great and only improves. First class service all the way!

What do you think about adding a max retry setting? with the option of making the retries unlimited? Maybe like enter -1 for unlimited or 1-??? for max retries? just a thought.

Thanks again for all you do!!!

Kris

EDIT: Of course thinking about it further, the client never gets disconnected because it is connected to the TCPMux program but the data stream from the server (through TCPMux at home) does disappear. I will have to pay closer attention and try out the new client. Hope this makes sense lol

pappy 1 / That did the trick. Slowly but surely I'm learning. I don't suppose anyone has a 'Win500 for Dummies' book that I could purchase? I wanted to set up the Denver EDACS system with talkgroups, and not the wildcard where every dang thing is monitored. For now I just want the fire dept. I'm not seeing where to enter a talkgroup (06-021), and how to make it NOT a wildcard group. I guess with patience and all the great people on this website I'll figure it out sometime. I will spend my entire Sunday working on this, but now I've got 5 days of work ahead of me.
THANK YOU!

This is a HUGE thread and I have been browsing for answers to my basic type questions. Does the scanner have to be hooked up to move a file that I have in Win500 to V-Folder in Win500? I just want to make the only HUGE system that I have created V-Folder #3. I wish the PSR500 and Win500 had a manual that I could actually hold in my hands and read. Both the scanner & software are absolutely great, but damn hard for an old fart to figure out.

Another Stewpid question. When you load a file from Win500 to the scanner does it automatically go to the ?working file?.

JK

Yes. Then you need to save the working file to a V File. This procedure is fairly easy and the instruction book tells you how. I'm laying in a hospital bed on the ground floor of my house and the 600 is upstairs, otherwise I would give you the steps for saving V Files. I had a bicycle accident and broke a hip so I'm scanning with my PRO-96 next to my bed.

Exsmokey / Sorry it took me so long to say THANKS.
I had a tough workweek. I think I figured out the V-Folders a little bit, but still have lots to learn, ie putting the preset and some created searches in V-Folders, and where to do that in Win500.
Oops, I guess my question of the day the would be: How can copy and paste 19 P25 control channels from a finished file to a new file? I tried the basic copy & paste method, but no cigar

User ID of "000" in LTR System

According to my information, the Marshfield (MA) Harbormaster's T/G on the Marshfield LTR system is "0-05-000." Likewise, according to my sources, "000" is a valid LTR UserID. However, when I attempt to enter this into my Win500 file, the program alters the entry to "0-05-001." Is this an error with the Win500 data entry mask or a limitation of the PSR-500? (Or is my information to the effect that "000" is a valid LTR UserID incorrect?)

The PSR-500 limits the "user/group" portion to the range [1..250], so Win500 does, too.

AFAIK, "000" isn't a valid user/group ID value for LTR.
