Win500 Uploading Crashes

Using Win500 on a GRE PSR-600 with the GRE supplied USB cable.

When uploading configuration files (Scanner>Upload to Scanner) to my PSR-600, I always must place the scanner in program mode first.

If not done in this fashion, more often than not the scanner will "crash" during the upload. It then has to reset itself.

Try the same function in another author's program and it always works successfully by just clicking its software menu command.

Is this behavior by design, or can Win500 be revised to automate this procedure?

I've never seen that problem. I regularly update my PSR-600 from Win500 while it's in various modes (SCAN, MAN, PGM), and it has worked every time.

I seem to recall that "another author" explicitly forced the scanner into PGM mode prior to updating data, but I don't believe that's necessary (both from my own "upload" experience and my knowledge of the scanner's own code).

[time passes]

As a test, I just uploaded from Win500 five times while the scanner was in MAN (twice) and SCAN (thrice) modes. Each upload completed without incident.

Are you running the latest versions of Win500 (1.72) and the scanner's CPU firmware (1.6)?

Yes to the latest software and firmware versions.

Tried it on XP machine and does same thing. Currently on Vista.

Only found the program mode "fix" by accident.

Are you currently "Scanning"? (logging only works while the scanner is in a "scanning" state).

Is the existing Win500ActivityLog.TXT file being updated with new data (that is, is it just the "most recent" list that is missing data)?

I figured it out.

When I was uploading from Win500 to the Pro-106, I was getting a message concerning duplicate or invalid objects. I clicked on yes. I couldn't ever figure out exactly why the error message was showing up.

I created a new template and downloaded from the scanner. The log then started showing up in the history box.

Ah... the P500 file didn't match the actual contents of the scanner (since the ObjectIDs were modified on upload to the scanner).

Are you trying to change the names of Scan Lists, or change the Scan List membership of "scannable objects"? If the latter, you should be able to just select them in the appropriate page (e.g. CONV or TSYS tabs), then check/uncheck the membership boxes to the right of the grid.

That's exactly what I'm doing right now with the membership boxes, that method works fine - no problems. I was just thinking it would be really handy to be able to swap scan lists without doing all of the selecting and checking/unchecking - like if I suddenly wanted all of the objects with membership in Scan List 15 to be exchanged with Scan List 4. I tend to reorder scan lists kind of often, so I thought it would be a neat feature.

In response to 66dave

"what do I need to do after downloading files from raidoreference into win500 to get them to work properly. I have done this a couple of different times but am having problems with the trunking freq."

Did you set up the "Trunking Tables"?
Did you make sure none of the "TSYS objects" "LOut" boxes are selected?

I did not set up any turnking tables. I dont think any tsys objects are selected. I was looking for
some instructions on setting up the program but not having much luck.

Yes there seems to be a few bugs in the import feature with RR.com
But give it time and I am sure Don will fix them.

Those aren't bugs. Those are people not understanding how the scanner works.

If I understood how the scanner worked I would not be here asking what I needed to do. with no help
files for the program it is diffacult to figure out what is needed to the the program to. when I download
from the rrdatabase for the local turnked system and load it to the scanner it says nothing enabled. I have
no idea how to enable anything since there is no instructions.

I can't remember now if any "scanlists" were selected when I imported my trunked system. I'm thinking not - in which case, you are right it would just say "nothing enabled". Go to your list of talkgroups, and to the right side of the screen is a section showing which scanlists are active. If none are, you can highlight a whole bunch (or all) of talkgroups at a time and check the box for whichever scanlist you want to hear them in.

You could also enable a scanlist manually in the scanner, by editing the talkgroup's entry and the first line is "Scan Lists: 01" You can use the left/right arrows to change which scanlist is shown, then SEL to enable or disable it. A * will show beside the scanlist number if it's enabled. Each item can belong to any, all, or none of the scanlists.

Then after reloading, be sure to enable that scanlist while scanning by pressing the right number key. (1-0 for the first 10 or Function-1 through Function-0 for the second 10.)

Why are multiple same file ids allowed to open/load?

One puzzling program feature to me in Win500 is that upon selecting file "Open" it permits the user to load mulitples of the same file id separately as stand alone files instead of only the last same file id selected to open/load. For example, I can open "scanlist01" and select "Open" again and select "scanlist01" again and it will open/load as a separate standalone file. I can do this without program restraint. Sometimes after making a change in only one loaded "scanlist01" I select to to save it and sometimes reopen/reload it forgetting that the first "scanlist01" file still is loaded. This logic seems contrary to that used in Excel(one worksheet) and Word and all application software I have that I can recall where only one file id with an identical name and extension can be opened/loaded in one session. I find this multiple same file id open logic to be confusing, annoying and time consuming. So as not to make matters worst I stop what I am doing and close a same multiple file(s) id that I previously had opened, saved and per Win500 logic erroneously reopened.

Recommend a user selectable option be incorporated in Win500 in a drop down menu selection possibly under "Configuration" to allow either a multiple files same file id or single file only same file id open/load option. Tnx.

A Thought

Awesome Software!

What's the chance of making a disable/enable option to Disable or Enable the Scan List text tag? When the Radio is holding on a transmission it flashes the Channel/TGID text and the Scan List tag. it's pretty fast, is there a possibility of disabling the Scan List tag to display ONLY the Channel/TGID tag?

Anyways, nice job on the software. Tis just a thought!

For Dave N2FG and the group,
I am trying to get this system to work and the pro-106 will not track it right now.

It works fine on my Pro-96, but not on the 106. I think Dave is up that way also. Any luck on it Dave?
Bob N1MLZ

West Point uses M/A-Com's special version of P25 trunking and some scanners cannot track it. (Note that this is not OpenSky, which is not P25 compliant at all.)

Question?

I'm baffled... I've imported my Data from a Pro-96 onto the Win500 program with no troubles. I've downloaded all the data into my Pro 106 via the win500 program. I'm not hearing anything on the Pro 106. I'm Listening to the Fleetnet MOT VHF/UHF systems as well as the Conventional. Any suggestions? PLEASE!
