Read the "Note" in the screen shot you posted - COMPLETELY. It is a two-step process.

". . . first click on the grid header above. Next, select "New Item at end" from the "Edit" menu."

And when I ask WHERE to click the header you won't tell me. I do "add new item to end" it does nothing like when I first posted.
Look at my screen shot. Please tell me WHERE DO I "CLICK THE HEADER"???????????????? TO GET A TG OBJECT TO APPEAR FOR CUSTOMIZATION?
I see a row with ID, Record, Alpha etc then the L/R scrollbar smashed up against it. Isn't the gap between these two items where I'm supposed to click? No space like the grey area under the TSYS that allowed me to make a new TSYS.
When I right click on Id or Alpha I get several options with more greyed out than available. Left click does nothing.

I can read and I can follow directions. What I'm telling you is what is happening.
When I go to search/sweeper objects, I have the grey area (just like under the TSYS) click "add new item at end" and bingo, I can add a new item, no hassle.

I scrolled over to the grey box next to hits. Click it and then add new item. The scroll bar goes back to where it was (full left) and the box with the prompt stares back at me.
My tone is frustration not anger.

I tried something else. I saved the file I was working on and closed Win500, re opened and now I can actually see and modify TG's.

Is this something I should have had to do?

Click anywhere you like in the grid header (nothing happens on the screen at this point). You don't mention clicking the "Edit" menu, the second part of the instruction. That's what seems to be what's missing.

Been there, done that. I had to restart the program for whatever reason. Now my grey box (hidden until I scroll over to the right in the TG pane) works like it should when I add new item. I have the one wildcard I wanted. Thanks all.

Could someone point me to the discussion on how to use WIN500 to program the 106? I need the step by step lesson. Thanks.

Is there a way to copy/paste around an entire created scan list (including all contents, trunk, conv, tags, freq's, etc) after being created over to a another scan list.. Say i have created a scan list named Police as "scan list #3", but now want it, and all of it's contents as scan list #1 now (where the Fire scan list currently is). I then want the Fire scan list #1 to go to slot #3 where the Police one use to be. In simple terms, how do i swap two completed scanl list #1 and #3 around with eachother?

If this software can do this, can someone please post a step by step for me. Thank you.

In TGRP grid using windows shift/ctrl, highlight all police groups. Un-check scanlist 3 and check list 1. Reverse process for fire groups.

I don't see shift/ctrl having an effect on anything.. I'm still confused?? I think i need a little more information to completely understand exactly what i need to do, and where to do it. I hope a "help" file gets added into a future update soon.

These are standard Windows features.
1. to highlight a group listed in order, click the first line, hold shift key then click last line of the group. All items for group will be highlighted.
2. to highlight groups not in order, click one line, hold ctrl key then click any other line(s) in same grouping. All items for group will be highlighted.

In either case, make changes in scanlist accordingly.

Ok, i get it now.. For swapping/moving scan list 3 (or which ever one you want) over to scan list 1..

1st, I highlight everything that i can find for scan list 3 (one catagory at a time). Making my way through, CONV Objects, TSYS Objects, SRCH/SWPR Objects.. Then, as the scan list number(s) un-grey from the highlighting (within the stand up retangular numbered scan list 01-20 box) i un-checkmark the 3 box, and then checkmark the 1 box. Now, everything that was in scan list 3, is now in scan list 1.Then i have to go back to the 1st page where the scan list name is and edit the name of scan list 1 to be the new name of what scan list 3 was. Now, i have to do the same thing for everything "that was originaly" in scan list 1 to make it now be set for scan list 3.

Thanks to all for helping me understand this. :)

*WOW... BY highlighting everything, the check-box for "backlight on" can be checked for all that is highlighted, same for groups of objects that use the same LED color... Just don't mess with the scan list numbers. I wish i knew this sooner.. I was check boxing each object one by one!!

Win 500 is awsome!! :) :) :)

dcalkins,
Any instructions on using WIN500 to program the PSR-500 would also apply to programming your Pro-106. Other than a different front panel arrangement, they are the same scanner (electronically), except for a very minor firmware variance. Other than the PSR-600 is the base version (Radio Shack equivalent is the Pro-197), basic programming for those two is also the same.

Which system are you trying to program? Richardson? One of the neighboring trunked systems? Most of the area trunked systems are in the preloaded V-scanner file (at least they were in the PSR-500), but no conventional channels, like Dallas PD & Fire Rescue, Tx DPS, Dallas SO, etc. If you want a WIN500 file for the DFW Metro area, while you get comfortable with the scanner, pm me your email address.

Error "No PSR-500/600 was found"

I just got a PSR-500 and the person at the radio store was kind enough to program it for me (initially). I downloaded the most recent version of Win500, loaded the drivers (correctly I believe), but it does not seem like I can get the program to find my unit. I'm reasonably computer literate so I think its all done correctly.

The drivers loaded the USB adapter to COM 6. I fiddled with the COM port settings in win500 but keep getting the same result.

Interestingly I have an ICOM PCR1000 PC-controlled radio, the software program that came with it communicates to my PC while another software program has trouble at times (times out).

I'm wondering if I am getting a timeout error, and if there are any other COM Port settings to try, or another software program might work, any thoughts?

Thanks,
Clark

Don't know if you tried this but in Win500 at bottom of Configuration menu click Find PSR-500/600 Serial Port... Read the note then click OK and wait for the search.

The USB cable for WIN500 on my laptop goes to COM11. Took me quite a while to figure that out. Never loaded any of the drivers, but once I identified the correct COM port, it works like a charm. One thing, if you upgrade your version of WIN500, recheck your COM port settings. Sometimes they default back to more normal settings.
