Linking TSYS and TGRP

I'm very familiar with Win96 and I'm now setting out to use Win500 with my new Pro106. I have no problem importing my Win96 data into Win500 and the radio will work fine with it.

But I would like to edit scan groups in Win500 to organize things differently. As near as I can tell (working without a Help file) editing is done by cut-and-paste to map objects into the scan groups. I can do that.

However, how do I link a TSYS object with TGRP objects? Right now, I have a bunch ot TGRP objects all marked "No TSYS." When I first looked at the TSYS objects, I got a Note saying there are no TGRP objects assigned to that TSYS and telling me to click on a grid header and select "new item at end" from the edit menu. I finally figured out (reading earlier posts) that this meant to click on the grey area and I pasted the TGRP objects properly (I think). I can now highlight the TSYS objects at the top of the TSYS page and the TGRP objects in the fields below change accordingly. Does this mean that I have properly associated the TGRP objects with a TSYS object? If so...why do I get the "No TSYS" indication when I am back on the TGRP page?

Thanks,

Steve, N4TX

I feel really dumb....

I know I have seen my first question asked here before but I could not find the answer via the search function. I just downloaded version 1.72 and am unable to connect to the Database here via web import. I get the message that a connection to the server could not be established. (I just checked and my Win97 & 96 will connect) I know this something simple but I can't remember what the fix is/was.

My next question is most likely user error. In Win500 I am trying to enter a few items just to start getting the feel of how everything works. I see that on the different 'Objects" pages there is a box telling me to click on the 'Grid header' to get a drop down list and then select 'new item at end' from the 'edit' menu. Well when I click on the grid header (have tried all locatoions on the header) nothing happens. Really feeling kinds dumb here........what am I missing? I know there is a learning curve here but I can't even get out of the starting blocks!

. . . Well when I click on the grid header (have tried all locatoions on the header) nothing happens. . .

Actually something DOES happen. You just don't get a visual indication that it has happened. By clicking anywhere in the header, you've told Win500 whether you will be adding a TSYS or TGRP object. After clicking (and seeing no change) go to the Edit menu and click "New Item at end".

Maybe Don can add some kind of visual indicator???

Still can't get PSR500 to communicate

Does the ICOM cable work with your scanner?

No, the cables are different - the PCR1000 uses a 9-pin RS232 type.

I also tried the "check the other COM ports" trick all the way to COM 14. Even tried an older laptop with windows 2000...no joy (arrgh).

The driver and win500 software installs seem rather simple, but I'm not discounting operator error.

I'm bringing the scanner and the laptop to the place where I bought it. Any other bright ideas?

Thanks,
Clark

What seems to work is to move to the right--beyond the "grid header" to a grey area, and click on that. Then I did a simple paste to get the TGs in.

O.K. That took care of that problem! I still cannot get the web import to work, I don't remember having to do anything special to make it work on previous Win## software. Is there something I need to access to allow the program access to the web?

Duh! I just set my security suite to allow Win500 access to the internet, now I hope it doesn't spend all day looking at porn while I'm at work!

I just got a PSR-500 and the person at the radio store was kind enough to program it for me (initially). I downloaded the most recent version of Win500, loaded the drivers (correctly I believe), but it does not seem like I can get the program to find my unit. I'm reasonably computer literate so I think its all done correctly.

The drivers loaded the USB adapter to COM 6. I fiddled with the COM port settings in win500 but keep getting the same result.

Interestingly I have an ICOM PCR1000 PC-controlled radio, the software program that came with it communicates to my PC while another software program has trouble at times (times out).

I'm wondering if I am getting a timeout error, and if there are any other COM Port settings to try, or another software program might work, any thoughts?

Thanks,
Clark

Sometimes, on some PC's, the USB cable isn't installed correctly, even though it appears to be. If it doesn't pause and have you select something in a drop down menu during the install, it's probably not installed right. I don't remember what the men said, it was too long ago. Try uninstalling the USB driver and reinstalling it, over and over again, if needed, until you see the menu. One of my PCs had zero problems, the cable installed perfectly on the first time, but on my laptop, it took hours of rebooting until it let me pick the option I needed, and once it did, the cable worked and I was able to load my Pro-96. Win500 worked great on my Pro-197.

Will I tried again and finally got it working. Just pays to be persistent as you suggested, I know that these USB adapters can be flaky. Now I can see what was programmed initially and can update to my liking. Thanks for all of your advice!

abbreviated/trunkated headers

Here's the problem I'm having, when I click onto Conv. objects, tsys objects(lower column only) or search/swpr objects, the header is cut in half horizontally, making it next to impossible for me to read headers. I'm using Windows XP with latest updates. Files work when loaded to scanner, the files were downloaded from Win96 for the talk groups and such. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Frank H.

After I downloaded and using the 1.72 program I no longer get the 400 frequencies (Nellis Air Base) to scroll. Has anyone else experience this? The hit counter on the program will score the hits. I like to know the times of activities take place as this is helpful for me to know when to listen. Scanner is always on just may not be sitting next to it ! Is this problem in my program, scanner or something I may have done with out my knowledge.

I plan on adding the "controls" you see on the right-hand side of the CONV and TSYS pages to the All Objects page. You'd be able to select any set of objects, then change all of them in one shot.

This would be great a great feature for when I use the scanner to listen to the drivers during auto races. While their practices sessions may occur in the daylight, the races often end/occur in the night and this would allow me to read the display by turning the light on and off with the squelch.

How do I make all of the tabs show. As you can see, Win500 cuts off the tabs. Don is there a way to show the complete words in the tabs?

Thanks

Lorin

Found a bug in 1.72 (possibly in earlier versions).

When adding talkgroups to a P25 auto system, the software will not allow you to enter them in HEX mode.

eg: typing 3F90 causes it to enter as 3

setting the system to Motorola 800/900 cures this problem and takes the hex values.
