WinXXCommon.dll must be in the same folder as Win500.exe. If it isn't, you'll get that error. Been there, done that.

LED Intensity Overide

Hi Don,

Currently when i decrease an LED's intensity setting, Win500 displays a corresponding saturation decrease in its LED color indicator... which is a nice effect, but a sometimes problematic one.

Under the General Settings tab it's fine because the indicators are large enough to clearly show the color - even for a highly dimmed LED.

But under the CONV and TSYS Objects tabs the color indicators are much smaller, so scanning for dim colors vs black in a large list is much more difficult, especially for blue.

Any chance there is a flag i've missed that overrides the Win500 display intensity to allow easily finding all the dim color entries in these two lists?

If not, would you be willing to consider adding one? : ))

Thanks!

couple minor things
- While doing a limit search, I press PAUSE on an active frequency. I get a PL/DPL logged. If a different user becomes active, the scanner will show the second PL but the log will not.
- In the Monitor / Control Screen, I choose Capture CC Dump: to Console. If I uncheck the box, the screen goes away. If I use the upper right "X" on the dump popup to close it, I get:
"error access violation at 0x73DD11C7 (tried to read from 0x00000004), program terminated"
and the program closes.

recording problems

I am just playing around with the monitor and record features in ver. 1.72 of WIN500 and all the wav files created are silent. Do I have to run a cable from the headphone jack of the radio to the audio input of my computer to record properly?

Anything I choose - certainly not everything I scan! Win500 makes it quite easy to change what I record as my interests change, especially with the Pro-197 which is permanently located near & connected to my computer.

sound recording

The short answer is yes.

Here is a thread I found helpful while setting up this great Win500 feature on my PSR-500 & Pro-197: Win500 Sound Recording

Thanks for the response. While the user interface for WIN500 is to a large extent intuitive, there is much that is not. A manual or a FAQ is definitely called for.

By the way, if I am using WIN500 on the same computer that the radio is connected to, why do I need the client application running as well? I am still fuzzy on the use of the client.

Switching windows changes focus

Win500 version 1.72, trial period. So far, so good. But...

When I switch windows to my spreadsheet to check a talkgroup detail while entering a cell in the TGRP pane, when I switch back using Alt+Tab the Win500 focus reverts to the TSYS type and I find keystrokes changing the trunked system type. This is a no-no.

Any way to leave the focus where I left it when I hit Alt+Tab?

I really, REALLY like to streamline my data entry and Windows always seems to do its best to get in my way. Anything that allows for minimal clicking and looking to see where I'm typing is a Good Thing. Less mouse, more keyboard. Or a "power user" mode that accomplishes the same thing.

Win500 is pretty close to this goal in what little I have played with it, but this kind of thing can be a deal-breaker.

Thanks for all your efforts.

***

Additional info: the above problem only occurs when you are actively editing a cell in the TGRP pane and switch to another window, either by Alt+Tab or by clicking another Windows application to make it active. When switching back to the Win500 window the focus moves to the TSYS pane in whatever field was highlighted last. So you might end up changing the object ID or system alpha tag or system type.

I just wanted to chime in with kudos. After tons of time spent playing with WIN500, the remote client feature finally sold me, and I purchased it. The ability to sit with my laptop anywhere I have an internet connection and port into my scanner computer is priceless. I can now see a reason to purchase one of those cheesy little laptops that are the size of a paperback book. It would be the perfect remote control for my base scanner. On a similar note, +1 on the pocket pc version. THAT would be truly awesome. Imagine if you will, in the future, a verizon 3g phone running windows mobile and a WIN500 client, controlling and listening to your scanner with your phone, anywhere, anytime. The same thing could be done with a broadband equipped pocket pc. And of course in both cases you could switch to wifi when available.

As a matter of fact, I am listening to my local PD dispatch with my laptop as I type, my wife sleeping feet from the base scanner that sits there silently sending all this data to the pc that sends it over my wifi network. Brilliant.

I love how easily I can take a CSV text log, then import it into excel where I can sort the data for review. Beautiful.

One request. It would be nice to have a lighted display on the computer without having to actually turn the light on in the scanner. But this is pretty minor, so I feel bad even asking. By this I mean the orange backlighting of the display box on the pc screen.

merging files on win500

i began monitoring in 1958 with a tunable Regency Radio. I have the winsoft for the PSR500 and have created a number of files (V-folders) from it. my question ( since i am NOT very computer literate) is; " is there any way to merge files (V-folders) i have put into the win500 program under seperate names. I.E; i have 2 trunked systems in the same file (V-folder) on 2 scan lists. is it possible to merge them with conventional files from another file( V-folder)and put them in a seperate scan list and have 1 larger file ( V-folder) that would have 3 scan lists in it. this way i would not have to replace the current V-folder when i need to go to a particular departments frequency.tia

1. Open file which has the most data you need and click Files "save as", give it a new name.
2. Highlight and delete all unneeded data from this "save as" file.
3. Open file which you need data for merging to this file.
4. Click in TSTS Object tab of this file, select the TSTS Object then press Ctrl c. You can also select more then one TSTS by clicking one, hold Ctrl and select others. Each will be highlighted. Then press Ctrl c to copy all.
5. Back to "save as file". Press Ctrl v. Frequencies, Trunking Tables and other data are all paste to this file.
6. In other file click in first line of Talkgroup of the TSYS then press Ctrl A (all will be highlighted) then press Ctrl C to copy all. Again, holding Ctrl to highlight those talkgroups needed will copy them only.
7. In "save as" file, click the TSTS line for these talkgroup objects then click in talkgroup header (or any dark gray area) then press Ctrl v.
8. Repeat above with conventional objects, you can select all or any part for copy/paste using Ctrl in same manner. (all Conv Objects selected and settings will copy/paste)
9. Click in General Settings tab and edit scanlist.

Version 01.72 and recording/logging.

In short, it didn't.

No logfile created. No audiofiles created. Output directory for sound file selection grayed out.

How hard would it be implement the ability to let us copy/paste not only the CONV Object or TGRP Object, but also the NOTES, LED COLOR and Scan List assignent?
