If you are running Window XP, there should be a zip program automatically included. I believe that to be the same with Vista. If not, you can do a Google search and I'm sure you will find a free program to do the same thing. WinZip is expensive for what little use you get out of it.

I have Vista and pretty sure no WinZip. I always have problems adding new things. Actually I think I had to do the Win500 on my old pc, put it on a flash drive, then put it on the laptop.

win500 going to 100% CPU during saves?!?

Anyone else see Win500 consume 100% CPU during saves and last for 90 seconds or more? I also see this behavior following pressing the "STOP" button on the monitor control tab.

I only started see this behavior following upgrades from the 1.7x versions. I'm now at v1.80.

I'm going to try a complete re-install and re-register...

[Edit: Deleting the Win500 folder, downloading the current version again, seems to have cleared it up]

Save = high cpu usage

In fact, I see high cpu usage on saves as well, and they do seem to last for about 10-15 seconds. At first I thought it was because my data drive is mapped to a network drive on my server, but even saves to the local disk behave similarly.

If you mean you cured it by uninstalling, then re-installing I guess that's worth a try. I have not kept up with the recent spate of updates, I was waiting for things to settle down. Maybe I could kill 2 birds with 1 stone?

Here, I see only brief spikes in CPU usage on save - about 20% for 2 or 3 seconds. I don't see any spike when starting/stopping the Monitor mode.

Problem with recording while on "pause"

I've noticed that while I'm on hold (paused) on a TG, the WIN500 software (version 1.80) will not record. However, if the radio is scanning and it stops on the same TG it will record.

I have tried this on numerous talkgroups and the results are always the same....press pause-no-record, scan-record.

Am I doing something wrong..or is it a problem with the software?

didnt search all the posts but can the Client be made to remember the last volume slider position used instead of resetting to full low at start up ??

That's darn technical for an old man to try.
I don't even think I have WinZip on my pc.

Well, those folks who don't like to change their own oil take their cars to Iffy Lube or a car shop. Maybe it would speed you along to ask a knowledgeable friend for help or call Geek Squad. They could get you going and show you a thing or two along the way. Win-win.

I must say I liked Win500 enough to buy it. Very easy to use Nicely designed software. But, (there are always buts) The PSREdit Which I also carefully played with, has a much larger to see and more configurable Monitor & Control application, it can be set for short & wide (mobile) with a large display. (some of us older scanist's are close to blind these days.) Don, have you considered a Larger Display for your Software? I like the pop-out feature, but it would be nice if the pop-out was about an inch taller and wider. Or the user had the option to make the application look like a PSR-600 even though they are scanning with a Pro-106. The logging capability sure is helpful too. Anyways since I own my version I thought I might drop in and comment. PSREdit was decent, but the fact that one has to double click the object to enter the edit program was time consuming. Win500 allows for highlight, change, move-on! but, everyone likes variety and no one likes a monopoly!

Ha, I still have a version of Win92 saved to a disk, not sure which version, but I got it .... Darn ole Pro-2067 don't even work anymore ...

Recording only *starts* when scanning. If you then hit the Pause key while the TGRP / CONV object is active (and recording), Win500 will continue to record indefinitely.

Not without adding an "INI" file, which the client does not currently have. An easy solution (from my side, at least) would be to restore volume to some pre-set point at startup... maybe 75% or 100%.

...time passes...

Version 1.16 of the remote client now starts at 100% volume.

I presume you're wanting to show something in the task bar while using the "monitor/control" feature... No, Win500 doesn't have that option.

However, you can do what I do when I want a small, relatively unobtrusive display of what the scanner is doing... Run the Remote Client app, connect to the Win500 "server", then enable the "Show LCD in separate window" option. The small LCD "window" that pops up can be resized to anything you want - I shrink it down to 1/4 size (144 pixels wide), then shove it up to the top-right of my screen.

Use the "remote client" as mentioned in my preceding post. Its "separate LCD window" can be resized to anything you like (it's kind of bizarre seeing it filling a 50" plasma with the audio pumped through a healthy receiver/amp).

I really want to avoid that. Since you mentioned PSREdit500... I think if you read through some threads, you'll see that Mike has had some big headaches with the re-oriented / resized display, especially when various Windows/user settings come into play (e.g. "large fonts").

That's an understatement... :)

That is really cool. I've never known about this, but how do you resize the "window?" I've run my mouse over it and the cursor does not change to the double-pointed arrow that indicates it can latch on to the borders to resize the display. I have no trouble moving the "window" to where I want it, just can't seem to resize it.

I'm working with V01.80.

My description of resizing that separate LCD window only applies to the "Remote Client app":

I should read more and could probably find the answer to my question, but does the client only allow 1 listener at a time to the radio? i have tested with Control on and off and it always allows only 1...

The Win500 server only allows 1 remote connection at a time. However, there are ways around this. Look for "TCPMUX" in this thread.

EDIT: Hey... I had lunch in your "Palace" a couple of days ago. Mmmmmm.... barbecued duck wrapped in a corn pancake; then a pulled pork sandwich; washed down with a pretty decent margarita.
