Don,
Can I copy and paste files from the P96 program to the Win500 program? If so could you point me in the right direction as how to do this.

Don,
Forget my last posting. I did bring the P96 files into the WIN500 program. Since the file was sent to me from Wyoming and it is a P25 auto file for the WyoLink, I somehow thought the programs would automatically set the files in the trunking system folders so I would only have to pick and chose my Id's that I wanted to use. So sorry to have bothered you so early in the morning.

The Win500 server only allows 1 remote connection at a time. However, there are ways around this. Look for "TCPMUX" in this thread.

EDIT: Hey... I had lunch in your "Palace" a couple of days ago. Mmmmmm.... barbecued duck wrapped in a corn pancake; then a pulled pork sandwich; washed down with a pretty decent margarita.

haha, ok, I will search for the work around, i am not looking for 10-15 connections, but i think 5 would be nice and i know my bandwith will allow with no problem.

Thanks

Win500 won't run

Trying to program a new Pro-106 radio for a friend.

Laptop with Vista Home Premium.

DLed Win500, using Radio Shack USB cable. Installed both with latest drivers.

Program tries to start, but then errors out with "win500 scanner utility has stopped working", same with Win500_com.exe. USB port shows in device manager as Com4, tried setting win500.ini (original is set to Com8) for that, didn't help.

No other info, anyone have any suggestions??

Did you extract the contents of the downloaded WIN500.ZIP file to a new directory? Or are you trying to run it from within the ZIP file? (The latter will not work, though Vista should've told you that it was missing a DLL, and probably would've prompted you to extract all the files.)

Program is in it's own directory. Tried setting it to XP compatibility mode, also didn't help.

For what it's worth, I am able to run Win500 on Vista Ultimate 64.. the only problems I have are that it "can't update registry" when trying to register .p500 extensions - but that isn't a surprise (I suspect running it in Administrator mode would fix that). The other issue is that occasionally on RR imports, the import screen disappears and leaves just the program screen, which then is frozen and makes just the "ding" sound when I try to click on it. Ending it via Task Manager is the only recourse, and all unsaved progress is lost.

Other than that, a splendid program, thanks very much :)

What cable are you using, and driver version??

The cable came with my radio and is "Part Number 30-3290" with a date code of 11A08. The drivers are version 2.4.16.0, dated 2/17/2009.

Don,

I'm a DB admin here and a new PSR500/Win500 owner/user and I've got a question for you about the "no subcategories" issue while using RRDB import.

I get that error message when I try to go to the "Provincewide" section of my home province (state), Alberta. As a result, I could not do a RRDB download for any frequencies accessed from that page (i.e. the "Public Safety (Fire/EMS)" or "Public Safety (Police)" groups) and had to enter them manually in Win500.

Is there anything that I as the admin of the RRDB for Alberta (and etc) can do, to change the referenced page so that Win500 works when directed to it?

On an unrelated topic: Just for the sake of interest, the Win500 program screen does not fit at all on the Asus eeePC's 1024x600 display - serious vertical scrolling is required and it (the eeePC) doesn't automatically scroll when the cursor/mouse/etc moves to an area off the "visible" screen.

Ignore County pulldown and go below to Agency list for Alberta for those agencies.

in Configuration Menu click User Interface. Change default 14 to about 8 or 9. You may need to modify default 90 down some also.

USB cable drivers from Don's site

There is a link to download updated drivers for newer versions of Win500. Just downloaded v1.8(had v1.68) for using with my 106. Uploaded the scanner to the new version no problem. Ran the monitoring window no problem. Is it neccessary for me to put the new drivers on my pc?
TIA,
Larry

No. If you can run version 1.80, then the drivers you already have are sufficient.

Personally, however, I always install the latest drivers from FTDI. In the several years I've been using their products, their drivers nearly always "improve" things and have never "broken" anything.

The RR Import code in Win500, Win96, and Win97 will be suffering a rewrite within the next couple of weeks, since RR is eliminating the method WinXX currently uses in favor of the method on the RR CD.

The "no subcategories" message will likely go away at that time.

Win500 requires 800 dots vertically (with "Normal fonts", that is; "Large fonts" can require more). There's nothing I can do about that without a pretty healthy rearranging / rewriting of the controls on the various tabs.

What am I missing ?

I do hope I got the right forum. I decided to clean up my GRE500 by using WIN500 by entering all my conv. channels then downloaded the talkgroup (Ontario zone 3 Site #24 ) from RR DB and picked the objects I wanted. I then modified the alpha tags then I set my scanner to default settings (turn off, turn on,0, 1, then ent.). When I downloaded it to my scanner, Only the conv. channels worked and no TG and no black square with the T in it showing. I can only hear the conv. channels. When I downloaded WIN500 again and downloaded from scanner the TG is shown as being there. Please, what am I missing. I searched RR forums and the scanner Manual and found no help. 73.

Programming Problem

I'm currently using the demo version of this software, along with another product to compare with. So far I like this one the best, but I'm having a programming problem. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I manually loaded a Vscanner file on my Pro-106 to put all my own systems for traveling. In Scan list 1 I put in an EDACS sytem, no problem. Now I'm trying to use scan list 2 for a conventional system, but everytime I try to create that system on scan list 2, it automatically defaults the new conv freq. to scan list 1. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
