I'm currently using the demo version of this software, along with another product to compare with. So far I like this one the best, but I'm having a programming problem. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I manually loaded a Vscanner file on my Pro-106 to put all my own systems for traveling. In Scan list 1 I put in an EDACS sytem, no problem. Now I'm trying to use scan list 2 for a conventional system, but everytime I try to create that system on scan list 2, it automatically defaults the new conv freq. to scan list 1. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
By default, new objects are place in the scan list indicated by the "Default Scan List" field on the General Settings tab. That field defaults (like the scanner) to scan list 1.

You can either change that field to something else (e.g. 2), or you could just enter your new conventional channels, letting them go into scan list 1, then, when you've entered them all, select all of them and change their scan list membership via the check boxes to the right of the Conventional Channels grid.

I do hope I got the right forum. I decided to clean up my GRE500 by using WIN500 by entering all my conv. channels then downloaded the talkgroup (Ontario zone 3 Site #24 ) from RR DB and picked the objects I wanted. I then modified the alpha tags then I set my scanner to default settings (turn off, turn on,0, 1, then ent.). When I downloaded it to my scanner, Only the conv. channels worked and no TG and no black square with the T in it showing. I can only hear the conv. channels. When I downloaded WIN500 again and downloaded from scanner the TG is shown as being there. Please, what am I missing. I searched RR forums and the scanner Manual and found no help. 73.
Did you enter (or doenload from the RR DB) the trunked system's control channel frequencies? If so, are the talkgroups you downloaded 'associated' with that TSYS object and are they in 'enabled' scan list(s)?

The fact that you don't see the 'T' icon means that the scanner is not tuning to / decoding any control channels. This can be caused by either of the things I mentioned above.

After you click on "Import Selected Channels" another page opens (see below). Clicking on the drop-down menu allows you to assign the imported system to a scan list other than the default of scan list 01.

Hi Don,
After reviewing Win500, I realized that as you suggested Check the scanlist assignments and sure enough, there was no scanlist assignment. I came soooo close to advertising a scanner and computer for sale cheap, there are located in the snowbank just outside my window....LOL. All is good now. Many thanks.

I am trying to learn the WIN500 software is ther some place in it that will let me input info for older analog frequencies for our local counties. We have the Radio shack PRO-197 and the loaded scan list are for the 800 trunking systems and I would like to be able to program the scanners for the analog frequencies for our customers.

TIA
Steve

Steve, take a look at this help file and you will see how that can be done. It shows how to import a whole system of conventional frequencies and how to add one frequency at a time all using WIN500.

I am new to the GRE scanners. I have two separate TSYS Objects, two completely different systems. I am trying to enter the talkgroup ID of 2544 in each separate TSYS Group. I get a message saying that the entry is invalid or already in use. These are completely separate systems that happen to have a common talk group. What do I need to do to enter this? Thanks!!

I'd like to see three things implemented into an update:

1) The recording length to NOT include the scanner delay time. As of now, if some of my channels (federal, etc) are set to 20 second delay, it usually records 20 seconds of silence after any activity.

2) Another option for the recording filename format. For time-critical sorts, a user can just sort a folder by date modified. But if you are recording a large number of channels and want to hear all recordings for one particular channel, you have to manually go through and select them. Instead of putting the date/time first, it should be Ch # / Freq-TG then Date/Time.

3) The PL/DPL tone or NAC added to the filenames for recordings.

Do you have an audio patch cable between the scanner's audio output jack and a line/mic input on your PC? Is that input "enabled" (unmuted) in your Windows mixer controls, and does it have an sufficient input level set?

The first step when recording is to make sure you can hear the scanner's audio "live" on your PC speakers. Once you can do that, you can try to record in Win500.

The only cable that is going from the scanner to the computer is the RadioShack upload cable...

Vista SP2 RC issues

Just installed the RC of Vista SP2 and am not able to get into win500 anymore. Before the install I had no problems getting into the software, but now it gives me a popup window that says "Error while unpacking program, code 2. Please report to author." Can anyone confirm or deny this also? Im using the trial version at the moment.

Just tried installing it again. Still I receive the same problem with the same error. Selecting run as administrator doesn't help either. Everything else has been running very smoothly, and its just this program thats giving me a problem. Im not quite sure what to do at this point, I dont see how SP2 RC could be corrupting win500.
