Just tried installing it again. Still I receive the same problem with the same error. Selecting run as administrator doesn't help either. Everything else has been running very smoothly, and its just this program thats giving me a problem. Im not quite sure what to do at this point, I dont see how SP2 RC could be corrupting win500.

It may not be "corrupting" Win500.

The error message you described above likelyl means that either Windows or (more likely) some anti-virus software thinks Win500's copy-protection mechanism is a virus, and is blocking access to it. Vista SP2 is supposed to have some enhanced "security" features, so that may be causing it.

Is Win500 Available on CD? I periodically having to "re-download" the program to launch it. Also, is there a "users manual" available or download-able somewhere? I'm slow in figuring out how to use this fine product, and don't want to walk away from it due to my technical ineptness. Thanks!

Trunked Systems Entering Re Type IIi ?

Hello,

Still find a lot of this confusing.
Will blame it on my age.

Have a trunked system (Massport; Boston area) that is listed as MOT Type IIi

Am I correct that all I need are the CC's to enter, and do not need any fleet map, etc. ?

Also, I just select MOT800/900 in the pull down menu. Correct ?

BTW: Might as well also ask now: what are the differences between MOT II and the IIi regarding how to enter them in WIN500 ?

Thanks,
Bob

Yes, you only need to enter the CC (control channel) frequencies. Whether or not you need to enter a fleet map likely depends on the talkgroups you want to monitor. If it's a "Type IIi" system, there may be talkgroups you want to monitor that use Type-I formats - if that's the case, you'll need to enter the appropriate fleet map.

As far as the scanner and Win500 are concerned, the only difference between a Type-I, Type-II, and Type-IIi system is the fleet map - and then only if you want to monitor "Type-I format" talkgroups.

Type II is your "modern", run of the mill Motorola trunk system.

Type I is an older design with a different way of handling talkgroups.

Type IIi is a blend of the two. It's a Type I system with some Type II fleets. You do need a fleetmap for this. The Massport system does have the fleetmap listed in the main system page in the DB, above the frequencies.

It should be programmed as a MOT 800/900 system.

(If you encounter a Type IIi system in the DB without a fleetmap shown, you can enter it without the fleetmap, but you will get lots of odd/weird ID numbers instead of the Type I talkgroup IDs.)

Don -

Got a few thoughts/comments after using Win500 for a few weeks now, and apologies if I'm reporting already known issues.

- Two issues with the Justify Alpha Tags feature: On the SRCH/SWPR Objects page, selecting the command either from the Edit menu or the right-click dialog doesn't pop up the "Left/Center/Right" dialog; in other words, it does nothing. You have to go to the "All Objects" page in order to justify SRCH/SWPR objects. Second, the justification feature is not available at all (greyed out) on the General Settings page, for the "Scan Lists" section of the page, and it definitely would be worthwhile there, IMO.

- I have encountered errors (which I can't remember the text of right now, of course) trying to write to the scanner, which ends in the program terminating. IIRC this is usually after I have been using the Monitor/Control feature, whether or not I turn it off before trying to write to the scanner. If it is by chance that I have been trying to write to the scanner while Monitor/Control is operating, may I suggest that you check for that feature being active and disable the read/write options in the menu in that case?

I'd like to see three things implemented into an update:

1) The recording length to NOT include the scanner delay time. As of now, if some of my channels (federal, etc) are set to 20 second delay, it usually records 20 seconds of silence after any activity.

2) Another option for the recording filename format. For time-critical sorts, a user can just sort a folder by date modified. But if you are recording a large number of channels and want to hear all recordings for one particular channel, you have to manually go through and select them. Instead of putting the date/time first, it should be Ch # / Freq-TG then Date/Time.

3) The PL/DPL tone or NAC added to the filenames for recordings.
Don, what do you think about these ideas?

MassPort has been all Type II SmartNet for several years.

When I select all of my objects on the Conv Objects tab then copy and paste into Excel so I can print them, it does not bring the object ID numbers into Excel. Anyone know how to print all of the columns?
Bob
I think it's because object numbering is regulated by the scanner memory and can't be manipulated externally. You can however, sort them (per system) in Win500 then reload to scanner. But if you attempt to sort in Excel then re-paste into Group Objects, it will add the paste objects rather then replace those already listed.

Re-read the Organizing Objects section in OM for some very useful techniques.

To expand on what Frank said...

The copy/paste in Win500 is primarily intended for pasting within Win500. Pasting in Win500 results in "new objects", and when creating new objects, Win500 is responsible for the assignment of Object IDs (though you're free to change them after creation).

Adding the Object ID column to the data that's on the clipboard would break Win500's pasting. Win500 automatically "detects" the type of data in each column (so that you're not limited to some fixed column arrangement if pasting from external sources), and the program would not be able to handle the Object ID correctly - it would be ambiguous, since its format could make it look like a couple of other data types (e.g. talkgroup IDs, hit counts, etc.).

OK thank you for the quick responses gentlemen. At least I know now that I can't do it directly and I could stop trying different things. I may try a "print screen" approach and print as many screens as it takes to get all the objects in the window and then paste them all together on paper. It will be good enough to at least "see" where all of my objects are located in the radio so if I want to manually go to an object I could look it up at a glance. That is why I really wanted the object ID's printed.

PocketPC connecting trouble

Don, I did a quick search on this thread and didn't find an answer for my problem, so I hope I'm not asking something you already addressed.

I successfully installed the Win500 Client on my pocket PC and had no problem connecting to and monitoring your "default" home.starrsoft.com address.

I also successfully set up the regular Win500 Client on my laptop to monitor my scanner with address 192.168.1.66 port 8086.

However, when I input address 192.168.1.66 port 8086 into the PocketPC Client, I get the error "Unable to connect to server 192.168.1.66:8086". I tried the address with and without "http://" in front.

I'm not a computer networking expert, so it's probably something I'm doing wrong that could easily be fixed. Thanks.

Win500 & PSR-500
I have been using Starrsoft for my scanners (pro97 pro96 2055 2096 psr400 psr500) for years but this win500 & PSR500 is got me rubbing my head!
A help file for win500 would help a lot so I hope it is coming soon.
Maybe I am just getting to old for the new scanners and software.
