So I just read that some folks from an EMS service near me (Southern Colorado) are heading out to help, I believe through FEMA.

When agencies outside the state show up do they get issued local radios? Or do they get their own radios re-programmed on the fly when they arrive? I've always wondered how that works.....

hopefully there is NPSPAC infrastructure in place and the incoming radios will simply mode change to the appropriate zone. Any other changes can be coordinated via the COML/COMT staff.

Depends - we would need to know what their MA / Function will be. (MA = Mission Assignment)
Function - NDMS, FEMA Ambulance Strike Teams, etc etc

Long ride in a rig from Colorado.

Also, if they are part of a FEMA Task Force, they should have a cache of FEMA-issued radio equipment with them.

I was busy all week at work. I couldn't log into RR most of the week for some odd reason. Hoping he is safe or relocated somewhere til it is safe.
Thank you, I chatted with him on Wednesday. I messaged him on Fri.No response.

What is the state of radio comms in the hurricane hit zones now?

How much damage did state, county, local, business, and amateur repeaters take?

I watched this video today of a crew restoring a microwave site on Sanibel Island. One of the guys in the video mentioned a public safety tower was knocked over.

I heard from an MSI source that the Lee County system cores were knocked off line due to flooding. It doesn’t surprise me that entire tower sites failed as well, but it does surprise me that a tower was “blown over” at the police station on shore.

I am located in Charlotte County, near the Peace River. Official Radio comms have been pretty solid here, especially as compared to 2004 Hurricane Charlie. The countys very new P25 system held up well. The Amateur Radio Emergency Service mostly held up as well, but some repeaters were left powerless after a while, and a few antennas went airborne. After a couple days these issues were overcome and very helpful informations has been flowing from the EOC to HAMs and thence to everyone.

Commercial radio comms were pretty hard hit. I could not obtain any nearby FM or AM commercial stations the following day, though there were a couple with empty carriers. Over the next 5 days the local stations came back on, kudos to their engineers!

IP connectivity has been spotty. I myself have relied on my phones 'hot spot' service. Compared to 2004, I would have to say that things are worse, but that is an unscientific impression. Regardless, connectivity is available, though often dramatically SLOW!

If anybody has more info (callsign, location, full name or any pertinent ID)it will help much. I looked through his posts and found that he lives off Harborview, which I live on one far end of. The road is about 7 miles long and badly worked over, so any info will be helpful.

I just went to the home of WTP. He was not there, but I talked to the people who were cleaning his yard. They said he is well but his phone isn't working. They said they would give him the message that people on RR were concerned.
This is great news ! . Thank you so much.
