" You can only have ONE of EACH and the name must match the system type."
Joe M.

I successfully programmed one conventional and two EDACS systems using the Demo SW.
The systems were named Conventional, EDACS, & Motorola to transfer and renamed once in the scanner.
All three track/work fine

It seems that the name and type of a system need not match.

OK. I sit corrected.

The BC246T comes with rechargeable batteries I was wondering can you buy a charger that plugs into a cigarette lighter to charge while you are mobile? Is it the same as a cell phone? Thanks ahead of time for any input.

I am using a Radio Shack CAT NO. 273-1811. It has selectable voltage outputs (3/4.5/6/7.5/9). My PRO93 and 96 need 9V +pin, and the BC246T needs 6V +pin.
I use the B adapter plug. Works great as a power supply and charger.

Clearing Frequencies

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on this. When Close Call finds frequencies and Auto Stores them for me, how can I when I am done with those, clear the list of these frequencies? Is there an easy way to do this?

The supplied charger and a small power inverter ( ~70 watt) would work too. Several places sell them for <$15.

When you d/l the demo software, all of the systems originally loaded into the scanner are also installed. If you want to know what the frequencies/TGID's are, just d/l the demo and look.

D/L the software, & cannot locate frequencies of the Conventional & TG's already prommed into the 246T. Is it in the 'Help' program files Uniden says to d/l after the program is set up? I haven't done so yet.

Does Uniden Accept Money Orders by Mail? Don't have any credit cards or Paypal. If so, what would be proper address to send to?

What is the easiest way to cut & trim Screen overlays to protect the 246T readout?

I was thinking because of the shape of the cover over the readout that it would be a bit difficult to match the film with the screen. Any hints/ideas on how to do it will be greatly appreciated.

The Screen overlays I have are "Belkin ClearScreen Overlays" For Palm Tungsten W & C series handhelds, they appear to be about 2.25" wide x 2.25" high. These were smallest I could find at Office Depot, the only Office supply store near me.

When the SW installs, it sets up the default directories for the data files. If you changed them, you may have to copy them from the original location. The default should be something like

C:\Documents and Settings\(cpmputer name)\My Documents\UASD_DataBase

if you are using XP. I believe it might create the "UASD_DataBase" folder in your PC's documents folder.

A lot of people lay the overlay over the screen and trim it with an exacto-knife or a blade.

For the BC246T screen mask I make a template out of paper, cut it out with scissors, turn the plastic over so it is face down, and transfer it to the backside of the adhesive paper being sure that on the backside it is reversed. Then cut it out.

I then match the plastic to the shape of the display and trim it as needed.

When applying it to the scanner display be careful not to get dirt, fuzz or air bubbles as you press it onto the surface. Some of the PDA kits come with a plastic credit card size applicator to make it smooth

Just don't apply too much pressure on the display :!:

I got to look at a 246 for the first time last night. I was impressed but I noticed something that I could not verify.
There was 5 trunked systems entered in this scanner that were all being scanned. As I watched the display, it stayed 5 seconds on each system (with no activity) before progressing to the next. This seemed like the early BC-235 scanners. Is this just the display or does it really take this long to check each system? (25 seconds to go through the scan list)

They are in the supplied system files. Just open one of the system files like you were going to edit it and look.

Is there any way to make this radio not hang on a trunked system so long? I have my system hold time down to 0 but it still hangs on the trunked systems for about 1 to 1 1/2 seconds, where as i hav noticed that neither my pro 95 or 96 will take nearly that long?? Just wondering.

Has Uniden posted the remote, serial port, commands for the BC246T anywhere? I can only find the commands for the older models.

You can adjust your hold time on each system by selecting the system use the toggle switch to go to hold time and set the hold time to different amounts. I have one system set on 4 seconds and another system that I dont care to listen to very much set on 1 second. You can also set the truncked system on a certain time frame and the convintentional system within the same bank on a different time frame. Hope this info helps

At my computer, duh!
Playing with the software waiting on the BBT to find it's way to my house, I've got a few questions about organization.

Can talkgroups be duplicated between group lists? I'd like to set up something like
1) Dipsatch, Our station's talkgroup
2) All of county fire, including Dispatch, our station, etc..

Assuming you can do this - let's say I put all fourty-leven TAC channels in County Fire. Can they be locked out in one group, and not in another, without interferiing with each other? (Only one group being active at a time)

Fer instance - Group 2 has all the common TAC channels, but locked out. Group 3 has all of the TAC channels, enabled. I select group 2, because there's an incident I want to listen to. Aircraft alert, they get TAC 10, 12, 14, and 16. So I scroll down the list, and "unlock" the channels I want. So now, half the county is responding to a multi-alarm furniture factory fire, and I want to hear just the airport incident, and not the fire, so I hit group 2, and leave TAC 18, 19, 20, and 22 (assigned to the fire) off.

You should always set conventional systems to zero seconds hang time (note: The default is TWO seconds). For trunked systems, set it to the minimum time you can. For lightly used systems, 1 second is fine. For heavier systems, 2 or 3 seconds may be needed. If it's a megasystem, you may need more delay.

Why? Chances are you will lose any reply made on the frequencey. In the 785D I have Conventional at 2 Seconds, never have got Trunking to work yet.

In the 246T -- Soon as I figure out just HOW the Unden software Demo works, the Help section isn't really that helpful (to me anyway) and get it finally programmed -- I will either leave it at 2 second delay, or experiment & see how well the next setting (3 Seconds?) works.
