I saw this on the site and have seen RS refer to these on-air programming units too:

On-Air Programming - (separate transmitter required) Makes programming multiple units a snap - just transmit the driver information using a PC and transceiver, and all scanners update at once

My question is where do you get one of these transceivers? Are they expensive? How do they work? I'd like to play with one - maybe I could make a few bucks at airshows and races.

No special transmitter required. Any transceiver with an external MIC input should be usable...will just need to make a cable to go from the sound card on your PC to the transceiver.

Hmmm OK, is there software available from Uniden or someone else that creates the correct input for the transmitter? Or a protocol spec somewhere? What about using saaaaay.... a PRO-96 cable so the serial port could carry the data? Sounds like fun - I'd like to learn more about this.

There will be software...it is in the works.

It will also have cabled PC Programming and control, like the BC246T.

This one is going to be cool, but its full potential will not be seen until it is taken to the track. This will THE scanner for race fans to get.

Is there a special frequency you have to be tuned to?

The PRO99 also has On-Air Programming. When I went to the GFS Marketplace 400 at MIS this summer I took the PRO99 along with me. Great little radio!!! It has now replaced my SC200 as my main racing radio. Ill still take the SC200 with me to the races in case someone sitting near by would like to use it.

You tune the scanner to match your transceiver. It does have to be in a band that defaults to FM.

I've had my hands on one for the last few days. It seems very cool. I'd say it's a little more scanner than the average race fans really needs but I really like it. I guess its very similar to the 246t w/o the trunking but with the added race feature. The Close Call feature works well the search and store feature is very handy. Its has enough memory space for all track frequencies (All cars primary/backup, media, officials, public service, andthen some.) My only concern is intermod but the radio will come w/ a "stubby" race antenna and also has attenuator functions. I haven't seen the software but i'd say it's a must have item. Hopefully it will come w/ software. (or at least be free off the internet).
