Hi all,

I'm a licensed amateur (Tech) and have been working on an offline mapping tool intended for extended outages and field operations, where radio still works but internet connectivity doesn't.

It's a fully offline, self-contained world map viewer that runs locally (no servers, no accounts, no network access). The goal was to preserve basic geographic context and situational awareness during grid-down scenarios or field deployments.

Project page with details and short demo videos:
Offline World Map for Kiwix (.ZIM)

Curious how others here handle offline situational awareness during outages or exercises, and whether something like this would be useful in emcomm or field use.

For me, it depends on the project/mission. Sometimes I cache Google Maps. I do a fair amount of 4WD exploring and travel in areas without reliable cell coverage, so I'll download the maps I need from Cal Topo or Garmin Map Quest (or Basecamp).
