Hi all and Happy Holidays
Friday I saw what looked like a Loach (OH-6) flying real low and towards the I-95 Springfield corridor past my QTH. It was dark forest green and had some sort of colored triangle marking on the side. I know the FF cnty PD has a Helo, the USPP have their Bell etc. I see plenty of Blackhawks since I live near Ft. Belvoir but this is a first. It just zipped by at like 600 feet. I would like and ID if possible. Some say PG PD has a Hughes 500 but don't think they would be this side of the Potomac. Does anyone have a comprehensive listing including users for Helo's in the DC area? I am familiar with the HMX flights to and from places by "White Tops" some or most coming from Quantico but this guy was weird to see.

McDonnell-Douglas makes these now, MD500's in the civillian world. Known as "Little Birds" in the Army, MH-6's and AH-6's are flown by the 160th SOAR(A).

Was the triangle a solid color, or was it more of an agency emblem? The US Fish and Wildlife Service has a triangular shaped emblem. Why it'd be flying that low, I don't know, unless you're adjacent to a reserve.

OH-6 maybe

Well I happen to live next to Huntley Meadows Woods, biggest US park in the county I think. The emblem was a triangle with 3 colors I believe, perhaps blue yellow and red? It went by so fast I did not have a lot of time to eyeball it well. I am kinda familiar with SOAR and Army aviation as I worked computer support at the Pentagon and the loggies at G4 had a aviation cell. As a side note one of these guys in this cell was the technical adviser for the movie "Fire Birds" with Nick Cage in the 1980's. Oh well it was likely a one time occurrence.
