Shortly after the last 311.0 transmission, which was LOUD on my handheld, I saw what I am pretty sure was a C-17 of some sort, flying east to west, N.E. Cuyahoga county (23:45 Z).

2020 local: CAREFLIGHT 2 just told Patterson Tower they are on a search and rescue mission for a hot air balloon...more info as I can get it.

2121 local: RHINO 41 (C-5A doing approaches) overheard the conversation, looked, and found the downed hot air balloon. Tower is passing on the info to CF2 now. Says it is by two large radio towers adjacent to large water towers in Beavercreek.

*The second flight of Danish F-16s took off normally until the fourth, which I
noticed was trailing a lot of smoke on the roll. I started snapping pics and saw
fireballs behind the aircraft (didn't catch one, though). Barely got off the
ground, but after declaring an emergency and being chased by the third, he RTB'd
(as did #3). Inspected by ground afterwards, then towed back to parking.

The 178th FW will switch to a UAV mission:

This is much like the 174th FW (NY ANG) did. They lost their F-16s and began flying MQ-9s.

I was assuming that Springfield would still have F-16 traffic like the 183rd FW did when they changed to a maintenance facility - it seems like that will be the case, at least for a while.

The 178th will fly their last mission on June 5, and the Dutch will stay at Springfield until the end of 2010.

Memorial Day flyovers are likely on Monday - as far as I know, the 178th FW was not scheduled for any as of Thursday. The 180th FW will do several; I know Blue Ash has one planned. These are current freqs to listen for:

Other bases require drone ops to communicate with local control (towers and TRACONs), but not ARTCCs.
