Ohio Milair

If possible, I'd like to make this a sticky - there's a great deal of military activity around the state, but it seems like much of the posting is done in other regional threads.

The Springfield ANGB and Wright-Patterson AFB frequencies have been updated very recently in the Wiki, and should be current.

Today I was having issues with my scanner shutting off, so I didn't get a full record, but SABER 11 (2x F-16) was working a close air support mission with SNIPER 11 (1x F-16) at Jefferson Range. Both were on the Range freq 343.000, with SABER airtac on V12 139.000.

Several flights in and out of Patterson, one of which was NETHERLANDS AIR FORCE 40 (KDC-10, T-235) departing...logged later in the day over Canada, possibly heading back overseas. Also logged a C-5A doing a flyover for the 106th anniversary of flight. Had both on 126.500 (Dayton Departure).

Thanks Jared,

I guess we should have done this sooner. I have taken your suggestion and moved this thread to a newly created sticky with a slightly different subject title to reflect not only Milair, but all military communications used in and around Ohio.

ATOMIC [0]1 FLIGHT (x3) up earlier this morning in Buckeye MOA, airtac V15 141.700.

SABER 11 FLIGHT (x2) and SHACK 21 (x2) went over to Jefferson Range for some bomb runs. Comms primarily on Range 343.000 and airtac V12 139.000 for SABER and 143.750 for SHACK.

SABER 11 cleared 2 off for inflight report and ATIS - said to tell ops 11 "jet is Code 1, pilot is Code stupid."

Also logged BEAST 31 (x2), but somewhat weak.

Here's an F-16 preset template I threw together for easy recording. To keep the spacing while posting, I've put slashes instead of spaces. Just put it in Notepad and use CTRL+H, replacing "/" with a space.

Springfield boys are up this morning: NUKE 61 (x2), BLADE 51 (x2), SABER 11 (x2), SHACK 21 (x2) all up in Buckeye MOA. U4 269.275 > U15 240.350.

I've heard "a/c 025" calling Patterson Ground several times this morning for radio checks. Trying to determine what it is - maybe the 445th AW got another C-5 loaned to them. If so, it would probably be (ex-)TN ANG C-5A 69-0025.

Currently assigned:
68-0215
68-0219
69-0003
69-0005
69-0013
69-0020 (at Warner Robins ALC until ???)
69-0025? (would be ex-164th AW...unconfirmed)
70-0447
70-0448 (at Warner Robins ALC until Dec. 2010)
70-0453 (ex-433rd AW)
70-0457
70-0461

Jared good job on the 178th presets. With the 178th FTU mission done have your heard where there jets are going?.

If you have not d\l this yet the yearly Airman "Book" is a nice reference.

Ohioscan

Hard to tell at this point...I know that they will likely go to other ANG units flying the Block-30 "Big Inlet", via this post:

1230 local - hearing CHAIN flight on 303.000, and I think they may be using another UHF frequency. Is anyone else picking up activity?

Got it at 1245 local: wingman is on 141.700 (V15) and lead is calling BLUE ASH on 303.000. Still haven't heard any activity from the opposing fighters, though...I'll keep searching.

1258 local asking on 303.000 for BLUE ASH to relay something to the red air controller, so the other flight (I think it's BLADE) is on a different UHF. Still can't find it and not sure that I will; CHAIN just called RTB in five minutes.

178th FW F-16s will be doing the flyover for today's game in Cincy. Monitor these frequencies:

Springfield Air National Guard Base, OH - The RadioReference Wiki

Monitor CVG Approach/Departure on both bands. THEY MAY BE ON VHF FOR THE FLYOVER.

They're airborne as of 1600 local - I did pick up an airtac, but didn't note which one just yet.

Update 1603 local: it's V12 139.000.

Update 1605: I may have been wrong. CHAIN and BLADE on V15 141.700 and U15 240.350 for ACM in Buckeye.

Disregard the last. SABER is doing the flyover. Up on 294.500 and V12 139.000. National Anthem starts at 1632 local. Flight of four.

1615 local: just got the handoff to CVG A/D on U17 254.250. Also hearing communications with SOF on V10 143.000.

1636: Departing with CVG A/D on U17 and V12. Pushing U4 269.275.

SABER 14 says he didn't think he was going to make it down after a ground delay. Got a quick climb from DAY A/D and "was 500 knots all the way down." 11 calling "boards out" for landing (speed brakes).

Springfield will not be getting the Singapore mission. They are going to the
162nd FW based at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson.

Ohio Area MilCom

A shame to hear, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Dutch renew a contract after the current one expires. Either way, there should be at least six months of flying left...and if the base doesn't get a new flying mission, there's little chance it will close - they've spent a lot of money over the past several years to revamp it.

Buckeye is active. BEAST 32 departed Patterson: U20 281.450 > U10 327.125 > U15 240.350 and reported departure on V10 143.000. Now in the MOA with another flight (didn't catch a callsign). Reporting no aux radios, so they will be on U16 283.800. V12 139.000 also briefly active, but I think it may be SABER returning.

Edit to my earlier post: REACH 360 was C-17A 07-7171.

Seeing as the sun has finally come out, I'm going to drive over to Springfield and do some spotting. I'll try and report back later tonight if possib.e.
