I live close to Ohio County, and on their EMS frequency (155.9550) a machine-gun like sound can be heard occasionally. I haven't listened extensively, but it seems like the dispatches are regular analog, but ambulance mobile traffic cannot be heard (the weird noise is heard). The noise sounds more like a digital transmission on an analog scanner than it does like a machine-gun. But the weird thing is, my digital scanners are not decoding any digital traffic on the frequency (the noise is still heard). Does anyone know if they are using NEXEDGE or what is going on?? This can only be heard on their EMS frequency, and I know it is from them because the sound was extremely clear when I was in Ohio County yesterday.

Ohio County (all agencies) are going digital. The switchover should happen on Feb. 6. See the thread "Ohio County Radio Upgrade" for the news story.
