I've just found out this morning that Yahoo Groups is downgrading their service for all groups.
Yahoo has unfortunately announced the decision that, effective October 28, we will no longer be able to upload content to the Ohio MARCS Yahoo Group (including programming files, photos and so on). In addition, all content currently hosted in the Ohio MARCS files section will be removed by Yahoo effective December 14. Finally, all discussion groups will be made private, requiring an invitation to join.
All these things taken together point to the likelihood that Yahoo Groups is on borrowed time.
One of the most useful features of the Yahoo group, in addition to the discussion area, is the ability to host shared files. With this capability being removed, the usefulness of Yahoo Groups for the Ohio MARCS group and many others is effectively at an end.
As such, a new OhioMARCS group will be created on Groups.IO, which was created a couple of years ago when service started being degraded on Yahoo. It has proven to be quite successful.
All files from the Files section here will be moved to the new OhioMARCS group, and all members of the Ohio_MARCS Yahoo group will receive an invitation via email to join the new group.
If you're a member of the Yahoo group, stand by for your invitation email. . .
