What freqs can I load for monitoring OSP across the state with reasonable success

You can still put in the 42.xxxxxxxx freq but that is less and less comman now.
Otherwise you would have to enter whatever sites are close to you and hope someone is listening all over the state.

They also operate on some 154.**** and 155.**** frequencies in various agencies.
More and more posts are migrating over to MARCS, though.

I believe I am hearing OSP Aviation on Intercity (155.3700). Is there another frequency in the Stark area that they may patch that to? They are nailin' a lot of people but I can't tell where they are. I know the last time I drove through Tuscawaras Co. I saw their bird in the air with two troopers that had different people pulled over.

That's usually it. 155.370, some times 154.935, some times 155.475, most times MARCS

The OSP Planes will check in with the patrol posts where they will be working near. Recently OSP planes have been working with Tallmadge & Stow PDs in various places. Post 76 units have also been in on the fun. The planes use 155.370 for comms with Tallmadge & Stow PDs and MARCS for the OSP units.
I can't really tell where they are, I can hear the bird but not the cars. I'm just hearing them on the base scanner. I hear them while at home too.

OSP MARCS monitoring in SW OH area

ok.... needing a little feedback.... starting to monitor OSP MARCS for the SW Ohio area (around Cincinnati).... I load in the control channels on my PRO-96 for A FEW of the surrounding areas (Cherry Grove, Northbend, Loveland, Cincinnati, Greenhills) from the database in ONE bank (putting an FM channel in between the control channels so the bank doesn't lock onto only ONE control channel as I believe I've read) as well as the TalkGroups for Post 9, 13, 83 and maybe one or two others.... now as I hear a conversation and see the control channel being used by the description I've loaded from the location (ex. Loveland)... I notice that the control channel seems to change as the talkgroup stays the same???? I seem to be hearing full conversations and am guessing just the way I have them labeled is throwing up question marks for me... maybe I just need to take the control channels as I have for the FEW surrounding areas and label them generally (I.E. OSP... instead of the location name) but I don't understand why they are changing control channels?? perhaps I'm not hearing the same conversation over different control channels but perhaps I'm seeing the same OSP Post using a couple different control channels???? I guess I'm missing something here?

I wouldn't worry about it, if it's working OK. It's not a problem at all. You probably actually ARE hearing the same TG on more than one site...

ok, so I seem to be getting the same traffic on 2 control channels it looks like at the moment (cherry grove and loveland).... so why wouldn't it be getting simulcast on the rest of the area stations? now I just heard another conversation on only ONE control channel... perhaps its just the scanner not picking up the other control ch. at the moment.... all 4 or 5 come in with strong signals though.. ... still trying to figure this out. :roll:

If you have the OSP Post affiliated with the post closest to the post itself, you'll hear the traffic on that tower. If a mobile or handheld is affiliated with a tower at another location, you will hear that traffic on that additional tower, as well.
Every tower that has a radio affiliated with any talkgroup will carry the radio traffic on it.
Example:
Cincinnati OSP Post is closest to the site in Cincinnati, the traffic will be on that site. A mobile is near the Butler county line and unable to affiliate with the Cincinnati site, but, is able to affiliate with a site in Butler County, then, you'll hear that traffic on that site.

think I have it figured enough to understand what's going on... thanks for the explanation.... just went ahead and loaded description as OSP for all the sites and then I don't get confused when talkgroups come up under different locations.
still have some detailed questions but as ya said, if it's working, not worrying about it.
