While the bike looks “cool”, I can’t see a Trooper chasing someone at those speeds. That would make them as stupid as the person they are chasing.

I think the point that they are trying to make with the 'Busa is deterence, not that they can go balls-to-the-walls and chase other bikes at 180+ mph. It was the same thing when state agencies used the B4C Camaro and SSP Mustang...even if you had a fast car, so did the trooper/officer which made most bad guys think twice about trying to elude.

If you can make the violator stop solely because of what they see you driving in the mirror, then sports car/bike has done it's job. The point is to stop a pursuit before it starts. The other objective that OHP is trying to reach is a "working respect" from the rice jockeys, which I think they will do fairly well in reaching that objective. You will never get everyone on board, but it's a good step in the right direction...esp. if you can get a lot of other riders to see the OHP bikes. It plants the seed in their mind for later encounters with OHP.

Here's the info OHP gave me Tuesday (July 4th) for the three hours they worked with the Hayabusa bikes that day:

The operation lasted 3 hours
65 speed tickets
44 speed warnings
10 "other" tickets

The highest speed was 93 MPH in a 60 MPH zone, clocked by one of the Hayabusas, which has Stalker radar on the rear of the bike. The vehicle approached the bike from behind, and didn't know that it was an OHP bike.

What do you want to bet that if an officer takes one of those bikes out of state, he'll be busted for impersonation? ["Thet don' look like no po-leese motorcycle! Up agin th' car, son!"]

I looked at the pictures of the bikes and I now believe the world is becoming more like the movie MAD MAX all the time. I'll be even more convinced if I hear one of the OHP motorcycle troopers referred to as "Goose" on the scanner. I hope those troopers are wearing leathers.
