OHP has Hyabusa Motorcycle units!!

There are two new OHP motor units here in the city (OKC). They are all black Suzuki GSXR-1300 Hyabusas with a full complement of LEDS and strobes. They said that they have a top speed of 183 mph but plan to use them more as a tool for "reaching out" to sportbike riders than for "top speed". They want to reach out to the sport bike community to teach rider safety by encountering them on the roads. This could be interesting. They look very sharp!

One was purchased with some sort of select funds (I think they said drug proceeds) and the other one was a seizure.

Fat chance to any car that tries to run from those.

SWEET! I used to work at Orielly's with a guy that had a 2005.... his was tuned up to a top speed of 220mph (or so he said). he let me drive it a couple times, 170 was the fastest I ever got it; when the dotted line in the middle of the road becomes solid it's too fast for me!

He ended up selling it after almost getting turned into pudding on Hwy169.

Well you can't blame them for being innovative.
They are the first PD here in Oklahoma (as far as I know) to employ a super sport bike (not BMW Enduro's or any brand cruisers) to enforce traffic laws. The sport bikes are the fastest thing on the road...why not give them a taste of their own medicine. Yeah the liability is there for a wreck just like anything else with two wheels and a motor, but why not experiment until you find what works for you. Besides these guys had to go to a special school (in California I believe) to get approved to ride.
I can appreciate my tax dollars being used for more innovative enforcement methods. The people I pay to enforce the law should not be restricted to doing it the way they have always done it, they should have the freedom to be creative in their pursuit of that goal.

Yeah but fortunately there aren't too many things that can outrun them. Plus they were free...kinda. You can't beat that!

You know there aren't any antennas on that from what I can tell. I guess they just have to use their handhelds. I know that some guys in OKC use headphone interfaces that hook to their HH units and have everything in their helmet. I've heard that works well.

While the bike looks “cool”, I can’t see a Trooper chasing someone at those speeds. That would make them as stupid as the person they are chasing.

I think the bikes look great we need to implement a deal like in Italy before you can move up in CC's on bikes you have to ride for a certain amount of time and pass a riding test then we would not have idiots riding bikes they cannot handle. I feel the troopers are smart enough not to put someone on these bikes thats not been through some kind of training not saying this would stop accidents but stop idiot people from buying a bike like the hyabusa and never have rode before just my two cents.

Are you sure you're not confusing this with the infamous "Supercycle" episode of Chip's? Story sounds exactly the same.

I can see it now...

A bad guy screams by at about 6 mph over the speed limit. Then about 4 seconds later from a dead stop to a 1/2 mile wheelie there is some HP officer standing on the seat at about 90 mph pointing his Glock at an offender. As the bad guy pulls over the officer does a stoppie.
