OHP in Canadian County

I'm going to be visiting El Reno next week and was wanting to know which part of Troop A covers El Reno? Is it metro or rural? Can I pick up Yukon and Mustang or other towns in Canadian County on just a rubber duck?

I live in yukon have heard them on both most of the time its on metro everyonce in awhile on rural very seldom though. They like to use the low band stuff for talkaround around that area makes for interesting listening as to speed trap areas etc. I have found the rubber duck antenna if you are refering to the radio shack 800 mhz antenna is great can hear plenty in and around the area the range, I get has really shocked me!!!

Howdy Ken here and I suspect that from what I monitor Oklahoma county is metro and everything else in Troop A is rural. I only listen to Norman and the OHP system but I suspect you should be able to hear some VHF stuff with a duckie. Have fun

Hope that will help you on the VHF side,since they still use it when 800
coverage is poor is the rural areas.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies. I understand OHP now, thanks. So I should be able to pick up Yukon, Mustang, and Union City from El Reno on just a duck?

Also I meant the rubber duck that came with the radio, not the Rat Shack 800 duck.

With ease they should all be loud and clear with that antenna. I carry both antenna with me and don't notice much difference on the state system but on the farther ones like Norman I notice a big difference with the 800 duck. Hope you have a fun trip to el reno might plug in the prison there as well.

Canadian Co OHP

Troop A Metro actually only covers Oklahoma County. Troop A Rural is Canadian, Cleveland, Logan, McClain and Pottawatomie Counties. However, Troopers are quite comfortable working incidents outside their assigned boundaries. For example, a trooper from Oklahoma County might come several miles into Canadian County to work an accident and work it on the Metro talkgroup. Or he might switch over to Rural.

If you are in El Reno, you will probably want to listen to the Geary site (860.4875MHz). It is actually located on a hill just north of I-40 at the Geary exit. The 154.905MHz OHP Mobile Relay is on the same tower. You'll hear more traffic from the east side of Troop J or the north side of Troop G than anything in Troop A.

Let me know if you hear anything on the Cheyenne Arapaho repeater at the Lucky Star Casino (155.0175/158.9175MHz). I'm also looking for traffic on a new repeater for the Parkview Ambulance. It would be on 153.755MHz.
