On a trip from Tulsa to OKC this week, an OHP cruiser passed me with only an 800Mhz antenna - no low band antenna at all. Of course, it had the other antennas for the computer & the camera but no Larsen 1/4 wave whip. Anybody have the inside scoop on this or was I looking at a one-off. TIA!

Ah, the good old days of low band 44.7...KKC883. It has been dead for years.

Google street view shows the low band antennas were removed from the towers next to the troop HQ in Altus and Durant.

Been gone awhile and not even installing in new units as a backup...... all OHP is on the OKWIN System or on the Patrol Net 700mhz system (NW & Panhandle, and some SE stuff)

I knew about the OKWIN/700 MHz system becoming the primary radio system yet still noted that plenty of units still had low-band antennas. I figured they were back-ups or for car-to-car occasional usage. It’s understandable from a maintenance perspective to pick one system to support. Mark me down as just a nostalgic old geezer.

As long as we are talking about low band. How many years has it been since any of you all have heard the Oklahoma Wildlife Dept on low band?

Used to be a bunch of good traffic on the air. I imagine everything is cell phones or some other technology now?

On another note, has anybody else realized/recognized the OHP Dispatcher (Troop B) that has left and is now at the Tulsa International Airport Police? It took me a bit, as I thought my radio was mixing up ID's as I listen mainly by voice in my mobile and couldn't figure out OHP chatter was showing up on 2219 (TIA PD) till I figured out it was just the Dispatcher had moved.

We had a long time local radio news guy leave the biz and go to work for the SO as a dispatcher. Was quite a shock when he first appeared on the dispatch channel.

20 plus years, im thinking they replaced that low band stuff with high band equipment, but that all got pulled down years ago too. At one time they were on the DOT passport system. Since Motorola bought them and killed passport, im not sure what if anything they are using except local sheriff's offices etc.
