OHP Troop K Perry Now On OKWIN

Troop K

Heard them briefly last night one time. PJ, do you know what sites they will be on?

Dave,
I would think they will be mostly on the Stillwater and Tulsa sites. I do not know about Bristow, Kellyville, or Carney sites. So far the traffic I have heard is the units that reside in Payne county. Regardless I'm glad they are using it exclusively. The only concern is that they may still use low band in the northen part of the troop in Kay county and in parts of Osage and Pawnee county due to lack of 800 coverage and hilly terrain. Still worth listening though.

This will make for some interesting traffic since football season starts in a month. OHP usually escorts the Cowboys to and from the stadium etc.

I have been through the area twice in the last month and didn't hear much, what I don't understand is that Noble county (might be others) is listed as part of OKWIN when it doesn't even have a Site within it? There is an antenna of good size at the Turnpike Maintaince and Troop office but not sure if it has any 800 on it or if it is lowband.

I guess the unanswered question is where they'll put a site in order to get the full use of 800 in the Troop K area. I haven't been north of Pawnee on Hwy 18 in some time but that tower, if still there and usable, might be a possibility.

Another good question is what Troop will be the next one to go 800. I'm torn between Clinton and Enid.

There are several other regional trunked systems in the database that are like that.
There are also some where a site is in a certain county, but when the system is updated in the db that county doesn't turn green or yellow on the map.
I don't know what the reason is.

P.J. I'm wondering what antenna you use at home to monitor the Stillwater and Payne County freqs? I live out on Keystone lake so I'm much closer to them than you are.

I'm always looking for a better antenna.

I am with you on this unless new tower sites pop up over night low band is still going to get used quite a bit in the areas not in range of an OKWIN site..

Troop K

In Pawnee and Osage county, they rely on the Sheriff and City dispatchers for most of their traffic. Don't hear them on Low band much at all except for car to car once in awhile.

I'm in East Tulsa. I'm monitoring them on the Tulsa site. All the traffic I am hearing is coming through the Tulsa site. I am pretty sure their home site is Stillwater since there is no active 800 tower north of there yet. So most of you traffic will be on both the Stillwater and Tulsa sites and possibly Carney, Bristow, and Kellyville. Just a guess on the last 3. So Dave I would just plug in the talkgroups mentioned above and listen to them on the Tulsa site unless you can hear Stillwater better? Hope this helps?

I have all the sites plugged in, I can receive Tulsa, Kellyville and Bristow, but haven't heard Stillwater, I think their out of range for my current setup. I am hearing Perry Troop K on Tulsa also.

I seem to remember it being built on the grounds or at least very close to the OKDOT yard at 2609 W Highway 77. Just east of I-35.

Does the RRDB change today mean Troop K no longer has any low-band traffic? How in the world are troopers in Osage County getting in to the OKWIN system when the closest base is either Tulsa or Stillwater?

I listen to 44.700 a lot and Troop K still talks to someone on lowband as I hear it everyday. Since they have a new HQ building I would think they added 800 radio capabilities on the radio consoles while they were building everything new from the ground up as the 800 traffic seems to have shown up with the move to the new building.

No, even Troop A uses low band sometimes.
