It's approaching that time once again for the Thunderbird Balloon classic! http://www.thunderbirdballoonandairclassic.com/

Oct 20 thru 22nd at Goodyear Airport. Ever see 100+ balloons lift off all at once?

After the balloons land there will be lots of aerobatic, warbird and jet fighter goodness, topped off with a performance by the Blue Angels afterwards. Since 10/22 is my birthday, that's the day I plan to go - I can't think of a better present for myself! :D

AZ check out the MT airshows link in our Wiki. I recognize several of those BA freqs as being old; in addition, there have been 2 or 3 NFM freqs in the 138-144 mhz band used for ground ops that started being used sometime last year.

Unfortunately George's website hasn't had any updates on freq lists like this in a long time; they tend to get stale. In fact, if memory serves, I have an Excel spreadsheet made up with just about everything in that article. Email me direct at ka3jjz@netscape.com
if you want a copy.

In addition, I'd use the search tools in the forum to search for others that have reported BA frequencies. Lots of folks forget they're even here; that would be an additional source of info. Of course, if you're using a BCD396 or BR330, wasting a few channels isn't going to be much of an issue, hi

Thanks Mike!

I think I found that Excel file here on the forum - here's the direct link to download for anyone who is interested:

Very nice file! I'll make sure to print a few copies of the relevant pages and bring them with! (lots of people come up to me at these things and ask if I have any good frequencies to share - Now I can just hand them a copy!)

Thanks for sharing!

I remember when I first was stationed at DMAFB back in the early 90's and those balloons were here...I took some pictures of the race from "A" mountain. I was also there for the "glows". That is very cool if you haven't seen the hot air balloons a glow at night.

Thanks for the tip to this one. I'll have to see about making it up there on Saturday, even though it conflicts with our SouthEast AZ Radio Monitoring Group meeting. We gotta make sacrifices some time :)

BTW, feel free to beg, borrow, and/or steal the info I post here :) I wouldn't put in the PL tones for the CAP folks. They're likely to be using a different PL tone up there. Time to capture what they do use :)

Did anyone happen to dial up the Civil Air Patrol frequencies while up there?

I had our local CAP Flight-228 active, as well as others in the area. The airshow folks wanted to get in contact with them, when they were just about home to Tucson.

CAP Flight-228 talked with home on 148.15mhz, PL 107.2, Channel-9.

I'm interested in the frequency or frequencies used, and the associated PL tones, and Channel ID, if given.

Thanks,
John

Sorry, I ended up not going after seeing the absolute debacle they had on Saturday with the shuttle busses and the parking situation - lots of paying customers didn't even get to the gates before the whole damn show was over! So I don't have any info to share unfortunately. Maybe next year. :-(
