Ok Guys complete newby question here.

Background. Pro-92.

I have been searching for different freqs.I live in Batavia Ohio. I have the clermont county jail, airport, and sherrifs office within 5 mile radius of me. So far I can only get the CCS and the Airport. I easily pick up cincinnati police many many miles from me.

I have one question. For the life of me I cannot figure out what to do with the talkgroup ID's.

It has everything I want to hear and in the section entitled "clermont County Communications Talkgroup ID's"

I need to know what to do with those ID's so I can listen. Does the 92 have the ability to use the talkgroup ID's. And I know this is a lot of questions but are they just seperate "private lines" inside a single channel?

Someone explain this one has me lost. Manual doesnt spell it out to clear for me.

Better yet download WIN92 from www.starrsoft.com This will allow you to see everything in each bank and you can figure out what needs to be done. Requires a 20-289 R/S cable. Backload the program in your scanner to software. Make a folder with a name like My92. Save your programs to this folder. You can make several with the programming being different. Program it with the new info and download back to scanner. Good Luck.

One major detail is that this is an ASTRO Digital system.
While your Pro-92 can be programmed and display the talkgroups
you want to hear, your scanner does not have the capability to translate the digital traffic as the newer Pro-96 scanner does.
I'm afraid you'll have to upgrade or limit your monitoring to your scanners
capabilities.

And I guess I need to save for that nice 96 the local shack has for 399.00.

100 bucks off for now. Its a local thing. In Eastgat Mall if anyone is interested.

PS just to be sure you are saying that with this scanner I am unable to listen to any of those talkgroups correct? I can tune the control channels fine and It does Edacs/Astro (same thing?) so I SHOULD be able to get it. Is this right or should I just get the 96?

Okay lets clear up a few things.

The system described on the page you referred to above can be found on this site as the State of Ohio MARCS System. Although it is a Motorola Omnilink (Type II) system it uses APCO-25 digital modulation on the voice channels, so yes, as mciupa points out, your Pro-92 can follow the system, but cannot understand the voice transmissions. For this you will need a Digital Capable scanner, such as the Pro-96 or any of the Uniden Digital Capable scanner (with digital cards installed).

As to your comment about EDACS/Astro being the same thing, they are not. They are not even the same type if system. EDACS uses one type of signaling, Astro (Motorola digital) another. In addition, EDACS may or may not be digital; and if it is, there is no scanner capable of decoding it. Astro by the way (at least here (lately)) more refers to a form of digital signaling which is also not able to be decoded by any current scanner, whereas Astro25 is Motorola's name for APCO P25 digital modulation. I don't want to sound like I am preaching here, but using terminology loosely can cause much mis-understanding.

As to following the CC for the different systems, unless there is some CC encryption going on, the Pro-92 will follow either EDACS or Motorla Type II system fine. It will also track regular LTR signaling. What it will not do, is track a true APCO-25 system which uses a 9600 baud CC, for that you need to have a Pro-96 or a Uniden 296d or 796d. If you are interested in decoding (to hard copy) the CC of an APCO-25 system, there is currently a software program which will use the output of Pro-96 (without modification) to decode such signaling.

I hope that this clears up any questions you may have. Welcome to the wonderful world of scanning!

Thank you for that explanation. After some much needed reading (and sleep) I came to the same conclusion as you have outlined. I am still learning and love to learn new things. Thanks for the info.

The 92 does a great job of following the transmissions, I just cant understand them lol. So I guess my christmas present this year is the pro 96.
