I just got a new PSR-700 am I'm trying to listen to the local sherrif's department. I've drilled down to what I want and slect the play/pause/select button and it does nothing. The only thing that works on this thing is weather which I could care less about.
I'm scouring the manual and maybe I'll figure it out eventually but this thing is not user friendly at all, which is the reason I bought it.

I'm in Blount Co. TN.

OK, I didn't give up, it just wasn't as intuitively obvious as I thought. Actually I think I could have entered all of the frequencies easier than going through the "no brainer" process that I thought I was getting into with this scanner.

I'm somewhat used to figuring things out and then reading the manual in my job as a plant electrical engineer. I equate scanners to Honeywell PID controllers, very powerful but a pain in the ass to figure out.

I do have my scanner scanning the local PD's and FD's now so I'm happy!

I don't have the 700, but I do have the 107 and the operation should be identical.

You have to assign the frequencies to a PLAYLIST. After you select what you want to listen to... back out of the menus slowly, you should see one that says something like "CHOOSE or SET PLAYLIST" at this point you select the playlist you want the frequencies assigned to. Once imported then you select that playlist and you should be good to go.

Good Luck,
Keith

Yeah I figured out through the manual that once you have the frequencies selected that you want you have to press the backspace and then import, not select like I would have guessed.
They could have made it much easier. If I were to design a new system with a menu it would have been so simple to ask you with a yes/no button "do you want to listen to this system". Granted there are tons of systems in some areas, but easy questions like do you want to listen to "electric service system" transmissions Y/N would make the scanner business so easy to use.

Glad you got it figured out. In fact, while I was responding to your question, you had already figured it out. :)

Good listening,
Keith

I like it!

I have to say it took me a bit to get the hang of things, but I really like the PSR-700. Once you get the hang of things it's like driving. I can navigate the 700 like teenagers text message

I recommend it, not that it means anything.

It's really that easy.
I had problems at first, but if you read the manual, it's REALLY simple!

I'm going through a lot of rechargeable batteries listening to our amazing society!

I wish this thing was digital, everything around me is either digital now or going digital by the end of the year...

I just a news post on the main page that says my county and two cities are considering a 4.5 million dollar radio upgrade project that the various councils are voting on this week. Oh well, great timing!

In any event, I would expect it to take a year or two at the earliest to get it up and running. By then I'm sure there will be plenty of choices for an easy to program digital radio scanners.

I have a question. How do I delete a system on scanlist001? For the life of me I can't figure it out. Surely I don't have to go thru the whole NC Viper system and delete each thing! Is there a factory reset?

My PSR-700 is supposed to arrive Monday. I guess I took a different approach. I'm only concerned with monitoring my area, so went ahead and downloaded the GRE software update and programmed everything, including customizing my alpha tags, like I would with any of my other scanner software (like ProScan). I plan on just uploading this to the SD card when my scanner arrives and hopefully will be on my way. I'll report back to tell how it goes.

My PSR-700 arrived this evening. Since I had downloaded the software ahead of time and programmed it ahead of time, it took just a minute to get the SD card loaded and the scanner up and running. I am very pleased so far. The radio is very compact and has a sturdy, professional radio feel to it. This little scanner had no problem picking up all the stations as well as my base (Uniden BCT15X) scanner does, even though my base scanner has an outside antenna. I am amazed how well it receives with the little stock wideband antenna. (Note to self-Get a better base antenna for the Uniden base unit!) The PSR-700 scans very fast.
