OK, I know it's my PC...but

I have a problem I can't figure out here... :wink:

I'm posting this from work because I can't from home! :shock:

Here's the details: I just set up a wireless router at the house so I could set up a 2nd PC for my wife to use online. Got everything up and running great within a couple of hours. Feeling quite good about myself, I went to check the forums here at RR.com and for some reason, I cannot log in! I go to the login screen and enter the correct signon and password, and when I do I'm taken to my profile screen where it shows me as "Currently Offline". If I try to go into the RRDB or the forums, I again get a login screen. I even created a new account to see if that was the problem, and that won't work either...

Cookies are enabled, and I even added an "Always allow" entry in IE for radioreference.com - still no go. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this? Is it the router causing it or am I just having a dumb moment? It worked fine before I hooked up the router, which seems odd to me, but leads me to believe I messed up something somewhere along the line. Help! I miss my favorite website!

This is a tough one to offer specific advise on how to troubleshoot, so I am just going to rattle things off as they come to mind ..

Have you taken the router out of the loop yet? If not, hook your pc up so that it has the internet connection and see if rr.com starts working.

If rr.com starts working, the problem is in the router. If rr.com does not work, the problem will be in your pc.

Should it be the router, look through the config screens to see if there is some packet filtering going on. If nothing is really obvious, hit the button to reset it back to factory defaults and start over. Do not worry about security settings at this point .. just get the thing working then address security. Remember, hardware can be defective new out of the box ...

Should it be your pc, I would reset IE security to defaults and disable any software firewalls. As you might already know ..

• Click on tools > Internet Options > click on the last tab to the right, Advanced.
  Click on the Restore Defaults button > Apply button.
  Click on the next tab to the left, Programs > Reset Web Settings > uncheck the reset homepage and click Yes and then OK.
  Click on the Security tab and for each of the four items there and reset those to the Defaut Level.

Restart IE and/or your workstation.

An update..

The good news is it isn't the router. I got the bright idea last night to try to login from my wife's PC, and it can access and login to rr.com without a problem. So that means the problem lies somewhere on my PC.... that figures. Maybe that's not good news after all - routers can only have so many things causing a problem. A PC can have many, many more. :roll:

I did as Crayon suggested, reset my security settings, turned off the firewall and anti-spyware programs and still no go. It's beginning to get annoying! I'll keep trying different things - just wanted to update everyone who was interested and let them know so far it's not the router, the firewall, the security settings or the anti-spyware. If anyone else has any other things to check or try, I'm open to suggestions. I intend to bang on it some more tonight in hopes I will stumble across the problem.

Actually it could still be the router. I am guessing that your PC is hardwired to the router (not knowing which router you have, few allow wireless connections to do the admin work on the router), so if that is the case your connection to the router may have gotten a filter set, or maybe you hardcoded the IP address for your computer causing a problem. Don't start changing things on the computer until you by-pass the router to see if that allows your computer to access the site. 8)

My PC's date got messed up. It thought it was the year 2080. I reset it to 2005 and voila - it works. I guess it thought the cookie from RR was expired. Imagine that.

Told you it wasn't the router, Crayon!! :twisted: Just kidding bro...

Well I did notice that now it has some sort of "Mr Fusion" device connected to it, and I no longer need to plug it into the wall.... it just asks for banana peels and beer cans every so often. Very strange....
