Ok, I'm bummed and confused...

The informaion on Lawrence Livermore labs has been removed.

So I have read the board's policy regarding federal system informaion.
I don't understand it. Why honor federal requests and not those from
municipal and county administrators. Aren't the local systems just as
'critical' as the federal ones?

As Lindsay states on the page. If you want a 'secure' system, then
deploy a secure system.

I cant speak for all federal systems, but I used to monitor a Federal Penitentiary that uses no encryption (as of 2/04). You hear everything from day to day ops to Prisoner Movements outside the facility. This includes SORT team operations...

About 15 miles away is another federal complex, same deal...all open air, no encryption.

I do not see either site listed on here, but they are easily found and very entertaining.

#1. The board is a great reference. I think your arguement could be
applied to any system. So why have the board if we can all search...

#2. If the system isn't used to transmit sensitive data, then why buckle
and retract the information on the board?

I understand your frustration... however, remember that the Feds / Mil folks could very easily make my life miserable.....even if it is legal. All it takes is one hot-shot fed/mil guy to make a name for himself, and I could be subject of a lengthy process that me, and my family cannot afford.

Most Fed / Mil stuff that comes from "official sources" - i.e. - someone on the inside, is classified information, and I could get in a lot of trouble for posting classified information. I wanted to provide an "out" to the Fed / Mil folks.

Local / State / etc don't have much jurisdiction over this site.

The other side of the coin is that those fed/mil admins that submit letters asking for the information to be removed will have their letter posted for the entire world to see --- meaning, public scrutiny can be fairly eye opening for those admins.

I am truly amazed that these few letters are all you've gotten Lindsay. I guess maybe some communications managers are not as paranoid as others. Or maybe they don't know about the site yet? At any rate, I can live with fewer federal systems if it allows the rest of the info to remain on this site. Good job Lindsay, keep it up, we all appreciate your efforts.

Unfortunately, but why not just ask a question within the forums and maybe someone knowledgeable on the system will answer up? 8)

I honor Lindsay's choices so just the same I won't happen to give a detailed analysis of the system at the same time it's removed without his permission.

Post 9/11 and Patriot Act, why do you think you'd be less immune from
the local authorities?

As far as classified information, could you just leave up the base and
offset information? That is 'easily' provable to be derived from
'non-classified' information.
