After not "vicariously listening" (also known as scanning) for way too many years, you guys have got me interested. (like I need another hobby).

I am fairly sure my BC210 was dead when I tossed it in a box, oh those many years ago.

So I pulled out my Yeasu FRG-9600.

Anyone have any comments on using this beast?

LOL Welcome back to the hobby!

Well first thing I need to get is a new power supply brick.
The one I have (not the original) has WAY too much hum.

Then I have to find a manual for it.

Also before we can advise you which scanner would be your best option, it would help to know what your planning on monitoring?

As far as any digital systems, your already well aware of whats out there, and what will do what and what wont. Your already very aware of how systems work, so that makes you easy to work with.

Now I'm all depressed, as I sit here next to my Bearcat 210 and my Regency R1075...

Well the BC210 dates back to me Ambulance days ('79 to '83) (Started with a Pro-something with 8 or 12 channels, with lit pushbuttons and crystals), and the FRG was "Test Equipment" from my system engineering days ('83 to '92)

Well, I'm sure many people and me are happy about that, that way maybe you'll stop "harrasing" us for being "just" scannerheads! ;) :)

You want an oldie but a goodie? I've got two Bearcat III's perched upon my station right now. Both 8 channel models, all crystal, separate "modules" for different receive ranges. SPDT switches to turn channels on and off. A little light up LED. Still both work like a charm. They have all crystals for the Ann Arbor area in them, so they don't do a lot of good for me to monitor with. A friend gave them to me because he didn't want them anymore. Pretty awesome scanners for being like... 1970's technology. Just thought I'd throw that in for good measure. They sure don't build scanners like they used to.

I had a 9600 for a while...totally sucks as a scanner because you can only scan X number of channels at a time, you don't have anything under 60 MHz, and it didn't have scan delay.

However, on the plus side, it was ONE HELL OF A RECEIVER as far as sensitivity was concerned. That SOB was one tight radio, and I get some FM broadcast crap over here in Wingdale. Didn't bother the 9600 one bit!
