If anybody else attends, stop me and say Hi!. I'll be wearing an orange ARRL nametag with my callsign and AEC - Payne County on it. Hope to see ya'll there!

An orange ARRL nametag at a hamfest .. hrmmm.

Could you afix a large, blinking neon arrow to your person pointing at you so that it can be more obvious?

(just mess'n with ya)

:)

k5mar, I couldnt find you for nothing! I even sat through an ARES meeting in the back, and there was only one guy in there with an orange name tag.

I talked to a ARES Section dude by the name of John and he said he saw your truck .. but not you. *aw well*

In other news, since there was VE's there I thought what the hay, I'll take the no-code tech test. The most that I studied for it was when foster_006 and I went to a website and took three online practice exams or so. :)

Welp, I passed. It wasn't that hard. The tech part was ez, weird questions like what ITU region was where is what tripped me up the most. Now just got to wait for my callsign to come in ... w00t!

Welcome

Congrats Crayon - see you on the air some time.

But.... you should still go back and read up on what you missed. The test is easy if you know some of the principles involved with radio, propagation, antennas, etc. But if that's how you pass, then what you missed may have been the rules. (not saying it is, just that that's a common way to do it).

Being an inquisitive kind of person, I'm sure you'll keep learning, and keep picking up all kinds fo new info. And hams are generally a helpful bunch, so they'll all gladly answer your "tech" questions. But it's embarassing (if not expensive) if you get caught breaking a rule. Usually you'll just get a friendly reminder, but some things get the FCC's attention in a hurry when you start talking about hi-power transmitters.

Anyway - let us know when you get your call (and your radio) and we'll try to give you a QSO on the air.

Congratulations! Can't tell where you live from the lat/lon you posted (I tried, but can't make any sense of it, best I can get is the middle of the Gulf of Mexico!) but if you're up Stillwater-way after you get your ticket, give a shout on 145.350, minus offset, no Pl.

Sorry I missed you. I was up late Friday night (work), so I didn't get away from Stillwater until almost 11 AM, so I missed the meetings. Had to meet a photog from the station so I left after a short time. Flea market was pretty well cleaned out by then, anyway. Not what I planned, but that's the way it goes.

Oops, almost forgot! Check these websites for your call to be issued:
http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/genmen/lic_state.hts
This is the official FCC website, enter your last name, select the state and go! Select the ULS database, not the IBFS. Your license will be in the HA service. Depending on how common your last name is, you may have to sort through a lot of returns to find the right one. Your prefix should be KE5.
http://www.wm7d.net/
This is where I found my license first, this guy has a great site! Use the lookup on the left.
