Just saw on Ch. 5 that a suspect in a chase by Oklahoma County jumped off an overpass on I-35, followed by an OCSO K-9 who was chasing him. The fall was approximately 150 Feet! The suspect has since died of his injuries, the dog landed on top of the suspect and survived, although he was seriously injured. The dog is expected to survive.

It was actually a 200 feet drop. Last I heard, the suspect was in fair condition...wonder who made that assesment. I can't imagine someone being in fair condition after that fall.

Mark, have you confirmed that he died? It makes sense, but I heard that he was going to live, as of about 10:30. Like I said, I was wondering how he was going to live after that fall.

The K-9 unit is doing well, so far. I didn't go by the hosp., but he's expected to live.

Sure enough, you were right Mark. Sorry for doubting you. Like I said, I'm wondering who made the assesment that he was in fair condition in the first place!

Yeah, the chase occured before I got home (worked a 12 hr shift yesterday), but Ch. 5 was running late on the news due to Monday Night Football. All the info I posted was from their live, late 10 PM news (at abt midnight). I've driven over the overpass in question, but it's hard to tell the height from above in a vehicle, so I went with what the news said. I was in awe at the tenacity of the K-9, right over the edge after the suspect!

Tenacity is right! Can you imagine the horror of the deputy, as he watch his dog jump? I can't imagine the grief and responsibility he felt at that moment. Even though he's not responsible, I would imagine that he felt like it was his fault. I just hope that he doesn't go down that road mentally, and realizes that it was the suspect's fault.

I heard that the dog landed on top of the suspect, and bounced of to the side. It was so sureal listening to Air 1 say that neither the animal or suspect had moved. Then he said that the suspect was trying to move. I just had a knot in my stomach, thinking about my German Shepherd. I didn't know at the time that the K-9 is a Rottweiler. Lastg I heard, the dog was expected to recover, but that was last night.

OKAY, here goes:
A very good friend of mine employs the brother of the OCSO K-9 officer and spoke with the officer directly.
Pursuit... Stop Sticks... Suspect bails out of car and run along the bridge... Deputy releases K-9... Suspect jumps off bridge... K-9 follows... Deputy and Officers make way to bottom of underpass... Suspect is alive... K-9 is alive (and biting the suspect on the arm)... Suspect wishes ill will on the K-9... K-9 officer is mediflighted by OCPD Air-1 to south OKC 24 hour vet clinic... K-9 LIVES WITH MINOR INJURIES AND IS ON PATROL TODAY...

The dog is a Bi-color German Shepherd not a Rottweiler!
