Last night around 4:30 am I was searching the 460 MHz police band. Not really looking for anything but just wanting to hear a variety of departments that use that band. The scanner was in my car w/ a high-gain VHF/UHF mobile-mount antenna. I started picking up what sounded like 28/29 checks thru a dispatcher on 460.4125. That scanner doesn't decode tones, so I didn't see if it had one. I really didn't think anything of it at the time because I figured it was probably some college PD or something. Once I got to work and looked it up on RadioReference, I was surprised to find it is the OCSO tactical/shared freq. I had a good mobile antenna, but even w/ that antenna there's no way those comms were simplex that I can tell. It definately sounded like it was thru a repeater. I'll give a listen tonight and see if they are using the freq again. Does anyone know anything about this freq and if it is indeed a repeater? I've never heard anything on it before. And it's listed for Bomb Squad/Tactical (Shared).

That same frequency is used by Bethany PD as thier channel 2. I have heard them on it numerous times.

Gilligan--

The city of Bethany has a license for a repeater on 460.4125MHz. i have never heard anything on it, so it isn't in the database.

Perhaps you have found something new!

They often use it as a talkaround or if they have a major situation to keep the dispatch channel upon for the other calls in Bethany.

Hope this helps

so does Bethany have an "actual" talkaround channel where they talk around the repeater - simplex on 460.450 ? And maybe a talkaround for their channel 2 ? Someone would have to be familiar w/ the channel plans for Bethany.

And how long has that been active? I've never heard it before.

heard it active one night on a hostage situation they said all units on the scene go to ch 2. Since then have heard them on it doing talk around as for simplex operations, I will try to listen not but a few miles from Bethany here in Yukon.

Yea I was hearing it about 1/2 mile from Bethany. Could be BaseMobile instead of thru a repeater, but the mobile was crystal clear, so I doubt it. I think I even heard the delay at the end of the transmission.

Hey Fast, what is that FMN mode you posted -- just cause it's a splinter freq, that shouldn't guarantee that it's narrow FM, should it? If it were, then wouldn't their dispatch freq be FMN as well, since the radios are probably either FM or FMN?

By the way, just for the record, Village PD supposedly has a private channel as well. I did a ride-along once and he said they can talk on a side channel but I don't know if it's just talking around the repeater or another whole freq altogether.

And I once heard Warr Acres key up on 465.150 or 465.600 and say "unit xx on 3" as in channel 3 probably. I was just scanning the inputs and so I don't know which one it was or if he was simplex on the input or using a repeater. But it had to be one of those two freqs.
