The last few days, I noticed that the FBI frequencies for OKC had been strangely quiet. I didn't think there was a chance that they had gone digital, so I didn't bother to scan them for P25 signals. While on a road trip earlier today, I noticed that the FBI channels have gone P25 and are encrypted. I have yet to hear anything in the metro, but so far I've confirmed digital signals on 167.3125, 167.2375, and 167.3875. Also, I copied a NAC of 167 on 167.2375 and it was encrypted. I'll try to keep the database up to date on the progress but it appears they have gone completely P25.

You mean CVSD (Securenet) ?

VSELP is an ancient vocoder used with Astro modulation.

No, I meant VSELP. That's what I thought they were using, ancient or not.

I would not be surprised if it were VSELP. However, I did a comm exercise with them a few years ago and they gave me a VHF XTS5000 for linking into their side. They said it was encrypted digital and that was all they would tell me. Don't think they gave me anything cool though. It had a single channel and was completely key locked out. It would transmit and receive and had some random soft ID that was entirely ambiguous. It was a nice radio though. We had to keep it under lock and key and they never left it far from their eyes.

The old encryption may have been VSELP, which may sound like DES (I don't know). But the new stuff is definitely P25 digital. I was able to copy the 167 NAC and it was encrypted. That was a little SE of the metro. So far, I have yet to hear any FBI signals at all (analog or digital) in the metro for the last two weeks or so. But my monitoring has been very limited as well. I should have it going 24/7 as of later today. It would be awesome if only the rural parts of the system were digital but it just wouldn't make sense. And the fact that I heard it on three separate repeaters only leads me to believe that the whole network is now digital. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

I heard radio techs on SMA 10 yesterday talking about the FBI coming onto the state DPS system but they had audio problems to resolve.

I figure they use cellphones most of the time anyway. They came to my house one day to ask about my neighbor. Not sure what he had done but he was a truck driver and I think he was hauling things he shouldn't have. They asked all kinds of questions about his arrival and departures. I thought it was funny they were questioning him since the people across the street were stealing electricity from him. I know its sound funny out there but they strung ROMEX across the street and plugged into his front power outlet. I didn't get involved but when he got home he had the police charge them with stealing electricity. I was sad about it because the little kids would come to my front door and ask if they could fill a pitcher of water so mom could make some noodles.
Anyway, I wanted to say that while the FBI was questioning me there was a bank robbery. Gary Johnson's phone rang (he was not the director back then) and they had to run to a bank robbery. He didn't appear to have a radio.
Oh, on the way into my house, they looked into my car. They asked if I was some kind of Ham or something. I wasn't at the time but it looked like it.

According to this very recent post in the Texas forum, the Ardmore FBI office may still be using analog. Also, that 163.4375 freq was heard simplex in OKC -- could be Texas agents up here for something...
167.4375 CT: 167.9 FBI Southern Oklahoma (Ardmore) Operates both modes and is QUITE busy.
163.4375 CT: 167.9 FBI North Texas (Also very busy)
