is the old lyme police department hooked into the state police system?

i know that willimantic is, and some other towns, why do they do this?...they have their own police cars with their towns names on them, so why do they not have their own departments and radio systems?

Not sure about old lyme.

By state police system I am assuming you are referring to the statewide 800 digital trunked system which Willimantic PD is not on. They are using a simple analog 800 frequency that was recently rebanded.

I know that Mansfield is on the SP system becuase they are serviced by a resident state trooper. Mansfield has what used to be called "constables" but now I believer are Mansfield police officers who work with the resident trooper. My guess is it was easier to have them stay on the SP system rather than try to build their own and maintain interoperability.

i am sorry i did mean mansfield, but i saw old lyme police this weekend and they had cars that looked nothing like state police cars and they even had an SUV for DUI Enforcement, but they are not listed in the database for any police operations in New London County,

Old Lyme police are constables under a S.P. Troop F resident trooper. Hence the use of the S.P. radio network. Some other towns in S.E. Ct with the same set-uo are Colchester, East Lyme, Montville, Ledyard, Westbrook. Many other towns have resident troopers only.

All "Trooper Towns" use the CSP system. Most (not all) constable towns have their own marked vehicles identifiying their town while the actual CSP Troopers will have their own traditional vehicles.

"Constables" are the same as police officers and the name itself is just a holdover from the olden days. The "officer" designation is becoming more of the norm.

They are heard as "xCxx" on the radio. 1st x being the troop area, C being the constable, xx being the unit number. For instance, HC91 would be -> Troop H Constable 91 (East Granby). Most of the constable numbers are in the 90 series. Never bothered to find out why.
