Several days ago on 27952 I heard someone say "Fire door check complete". Yesterday on 27952 I heard someone say "Happy birthday to ? from all the Indian River staff " this was on the Massillon site.

Sounds like it'd be Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility in Massillon.

Indian River JCF

This talkgroup has been added to the MARCS talkgroups.

Thanks,

Mike

TalkGroup 28352

Since the 1st of November I have had close to 300 hits in Northeastern Ohio on MARCS TalkGroup 28352 but cannot figure out what it is. Anyone have information on who is using this Group?

I personally have no idea.. might end up being an ODH talkgroup of some sort. You've never been around to hear the traffic on it when it is active? Do you know what site(s) you're hearing it on?

59856...

It's a police department, possibly around Huron County (officer with unit # 380 ran a tag that came back to Norwalk).

More info:

Sounds like a university police department; heard a unit mark out at "student lot xx with a 10-23b" which may place it in the Columbus area. 10-23b is Columbus-speak for a vehicle lockout, and many law agencies around Columbus use the CPD codes.

I just heard this one on the Columbus site, talking about an address in Newark. I think I heard arson mentioned.

Edit: I just looked the address up, and it's at the OSU Newark Campus. 380 is in the series of unit numbers OSU PD uses, also.

I mainly use my scanner in the car and so I don't always catch what talkgroups are broadcasting but when I do look down I see this particular group. When I checked the "hits" I see it has now 325 since 11/1. The only MARCS towers I have programmed are Chardon, Portage and Beachwood.

MARCS system question...

There are just way to many replies on this thread to go through so I am just going to ask this question and if I get hassled about it I will just be a big boy and take one for the team....
Has any one heard any iCalls in the Northeast, Northwest or the Northern part of the state? The reason I am asking is that I travel across the state 4 times a week and wanted to add a wildcard to my talkgroup as I scan. Just wanted to find out first if it was just going to be a waste of time or not.

I've got several from listening here in Central Ohio. I looked over the MARCS page in the database and didn't see these matching anything so I'l post them up...

Colin,

Per what you and Ibagli have reported, I have added 49856 as "Ohio State University PD - Newark Campus" under Licking County talkgroups.

However, on OSU PD's Facebook page they have an entry there about having put an OSU PD officer at the Newark Campus a month or a few months ago. If there is a single OSU PD officer there, perhaps this is going to be an actual "security" talkgroup for OSU Newark vs an OSU PD-specific talkgroup.

So I'd appreciate it if you guys who monitor in the Newark area keep your ears peeled, and if you feel that this ends up being a more generic "OSU Security" talkgroup versus a PD-specific talkgroup, let us know.

Thanks

Mike

OSU-N/COTC security has a conventional repeater they're still using as of today. I was wondering if it might end up not being Newark-specific, but a general-use talkgroup for OSU PD whenever they're outside of Columbus for whatever reason (I doubt they go anywhere else much, but I've seen them at the Newark Campus during special events before).

Uhhhhhh... the talkgroup under consideration there was 59856, not 49856.

After logging 500 hits in November on TalkGroup 28352 I have come to the conclusion that this talkgroup is assigned to "some" hotel shuttle service. I only hear one side of the conversation and have been hearing the words "where are you now?"; "hotel"; when are you leaving?, etc. I am suspicious that it is associated with one of the hotels along the Chagrin Blvd/I-271 corridor.

I was listening to 53376 on Monday night 11/30/2009, sounds like police or under cover agents? They were doing Surveillance for 2 people that were to be at "Wings" they had made a "purchase" from undercover personal. They did find the people that they were looking for about an hour later.

53376 I had matched up some previous communications on this talkgroup when they requested assitance on a traffic accident with brunswick dispatch. The address used also matched that area. Caught a location tonight and it was in brunswick.

Very, very, very, VERY unlikely. Private, for-profit enterprises are not permitted to use government-owned facilities in Ohio (including radio systems) unless they are public-safety allied in some way, such as medical helicopter services, private ambulance services, and the like.

More likely you're hearing some sort of surveillance operation or something to that effect, using some sort of oddball full-duplex crossband arrangement.
