59856...
It's a police department, possibly around Huron County (officer with unit # 380 ran a tag that came back to Norwalk).
I just started reading this forum tonight. Iwas trying to bring up a radio feed and saw the forum links. Yes, i'm a sucker for Forums. To getback on subject. I noticed after reading this thread (yes, top to bottom) I noticed several posts about people hearing traffic on 59824 & 59856. I dont know anything about the radio systems (i just use them and my life depends on them), but I think I can help solve this mystery.
Ohio State University purchased MARCS radios back around 2008 or 2009. It was a cost sharing deal they put together with Columbus State. Anyways,at least two of the channels were to be used by the OSU Wooster Campus Police (not security). OSP post 85 originally dispatched for the Wooster Campus, but had planned to go to centralized dispatch center. Hence the purchase of MARCS Radios. in either 2008 or 2009 Wooster campus started utilizing the marcs radios since at the time post 85 was transferring dispatch to the canton post in the evenings. They would patch the OSU wooster police over to them. In 2010 OSU Columbus installed the proper equipment in their dispatch and started dispatching for OSU Wooster (with plenty of connection issues). On 9/16/2010 a tornado hit the Wooster Campus (Also known as ATI and OARDC). Its amazing that these radio transmit across the state so clearly.
Around that time OSU Police decided to start putting police departments on on all their regional campuses. this included Newark, Marion and Mansfield. OSU has several regional campuses and research stations across the state. The radio channels were to be used as Regional campus channels in stead of exclusively Wooster campus.
Wooster campus has the majority if the radio traffic especially at night. the others are mainly day time traffic.
