• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anybody have or can make a sound bit of the old MOTOROLA MDC 1200 Signaling noise. It was heard a lot on the FDNY radio during 9/11 I believe the old SABER SERIES can still make this older version of this signaling. Also if any one has a video I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks Matt

FDNY back then used to use a proprietary Motorola format called "ATIS". It sounds similar to MDC, but completely incompatable with it. It is only availiable in HT1000 & Visar radios.

Could it also may be MDC 600 I can't fi d any samples but people say there are some other radio series that can make the noise.

MDC600 is much slower though and does not sound similar if I recall correctly. Plus, MDC600 will decode on a MDC1200 system. I know the Saber series did MDC600. At any rate, I know they used to use ATIS. As for MDC 600 or something off like GeStar I don't know. :)

Im at work right now so I cannot watch the YouTube clip until this evening. :(

I never really saw ATIS used much, MDC 1200 was way more popular - probably because more radios did it.

Try searching for ATIS on YouTube and see what you find. Just FYI, ATIS is also an acronym for a million other things like Automatic Terminal Information Service used in the area of airports, so your search may have tons of erroneous results. :)

At any rate, I'll check out the YouTube clip this evening and hit you back.

Ohh, I'm sorry, I only read through the first few posts, and that vid, that's not Motorola, that's Fleetsync- Kenwood's response to MDC1200. It sounds like this: http://www.w2sjw.com/sounds/FleetSync-Pre2.mp3 however the pre ident bursts are shorter I think.

Nope that's what I thought but its not. At the time the FDNY only had Motorola and Vertex radios. And the city of New York does not use fleetsync.

Hmm that's weird. No idea what it would be besides those and GE bursts sound nothing like that. The only other id bursts I've heard were on trunking systems.

FDNY had the saber ll with MDC600 at the time of 9/11. The saber ll/lll both have mdc600/1200, you can change it through rss.

That video appears to have the same ID after every transmission for some reason.

It sounds like MDC1200 to me.
