Hi folks. I restore old crystal scanners as a hobby. I have a service monitor and plenty of spare equipment. Recently I decided to take on an old Regency WHAMO scanner with the Frequency Combs. I have a new set of combs that I programmed and for the life of me I can not get the scanner to receive anything.

I have tried aligning the receiver, but I get nothing on any band. I am hoping maybe someone out there has an old manual they can scan for me. Id be happy to pay for it. A service manual would be perfect but I fear it may be hard to come by. The RF section of the radio looks good. I have not opened the other section of the radio... I assume the other section is where the magic happens with the combs. Not sure if my issue is the radio not decoding the combs correctly, or if it is an issue at the RF section.

I had a couple Whamo-10 scanners many years ago. They failed because a printed circuit board with no plated through holes had bad solder joints. Without plating the soldering of component leads on top and bottom was crucial in making certain connections. Resoldering top and bottom connections did get both units running. This issue is not with the RF board as that is just a single sided board. I may be able to help with a manual but it will take a while to find and scan it.

Excellent info. That board must be in the other side of the scanner. Opposite the rf board. I havent taken that apart yet. Ill check in there next. Everything I have read seems to show these as very solid models for the most part. Decent receivers.
