I ave programmed the Greenfield tower/control channels into my PSR-600 and have Hancock Sheriff / Greenfield PD talk groups associated with that tower. I have noticed that HCSD shows up on the Pendleton and Wilkenson towers on occasion. Does the SAFE-T system repeat these transmissions (Pendleton/Wilkinson) on the Greenfield tower or do I need to monitor these talkgroups on the other towers to get the total communications?

Let's say an HCSD officer's radio is affiliated with the Greenfield site and he keys up his radio. Every site that has a radio affiliated with it which is monitoring that talkgroup will retransmit what the officer says. What you are seeing is that there are radios, probably in the hands of HCSD officers or other law enforcement people in the county, which are affiliated with the Pendleton or Wilkinson sites. If there were no radios monitoring HCSD talkgroups affiliated with those sites, they probably wouldn't light up when someone talks on the Greenfield site.

For monitoring purposes, it's best to just program your radio for the site nearest you.

OK, just because I can be dense at time ;)

If an HCSD officer is in the northern part of the county and hits the Pendleton tower, will his transmission also be repeated by the Greenfield tower?

only if a radio on the HCSD Talkgroup is also affiliating with the Greenfield tower

you should be fine just monitoring the Greenfield site....the dispatch center in Greenfield has a couple of handhelds in the center....those radios should always affiliate with the Greenfield tower and repeat any officer that hits the Pendleton tower.

You will see HCSD and Greenfield affiliated with numerous sites including the ones you mentioned but also with ISP 52 tower (at the post on Post Rd), Shelby County (Morristown and Fairland), Henry County and on rare occsions Anderson too. Usually though the best ones to catch them on are Wilkinson, Pendleton and Indy so if you travel around the county those are your best bets besides obviously the site in Greenfield. I keep all of these sites active as I travel around the area a lot.

Does anyone know the frequencies for the Daviess County transmitter? I cannot find it in the list on the SAFE-T database.

There is no transmitter in Daviess County. The map shows one but it is out of place and should be moved over to the Shoals area in Martin County. Try programming the Martin County transmitters at Bramble and Shoals. You might also want to program transmitters from all the adjacent counties like Petersburg (Pike), and Edwardsport (Knox).

Vincennes Site

One of these days I plan to go up North and do the Vincennes Site. I did Gibson Co. while I was working one night. Can't get a good enough signal from Knox Co while I was in Gibson Co.

Appears this is a busy tower! Notice each voice channels has well over 200 hits. Ran UniTrunker for something like 8 hours on this site.

STORM ALERT FROM IPSC Website

I have already heard numerous agencies say they are experiencing radio issues. Below is from the website

IMPORTANT ALERT!!!!

With the upcoming winter storm, the Integrated Public Safety Commission would like to remind system users:

■Significant ice accumulation will likely cause network outage, causing site trunkings. Be prepared to utilize your site-trunking plans.
■System busies are caused by too many talkgroups being used at a site. To reduce busies, limit radio traffic to emergency communications only and reduce the number of talkgroups to the absolute minimum. Note: Use of "hold all but emergency traffic" (old SIG100) and Regional Mutual Aid talkgroups is appropriate and encouraged.
■All NPSPAC repeaters will be activated tonight, 1/31/11, at 6pm. These channels may be utilized as a means of interoperable and alternative communications.

Sarcasm on - but all the press releases, articles, attaboys on their website says Safe-t can handle anything and everything that is thrown at it - sarcasm off

In my opinion, it is not ready for prime time and what they "eventually" want it to be used for in emergencies.

If a "small" storm brings the system down, imagine what a major disaster will do.

All users of this system need to have their own backup communications plan and resources.

its has always been encryption capable...most units just use it in the clear

Yes and No, previously only 2 CZ DES units had encryption capability as they were the only two that had it installed ..... Now all of them are properly programmed. It wasn't used before due to only two radios having it.

I always thought they should have supplied the radios set up for rebanding, if they had, the entire system could have been rebanded by now and the issue a mute point. And, as usual with the Daniels adminstration things are a mess and cost taxpayers more than they should. This is nothing new though, why use common sense and save $$, work and time?
