Any users note any signidcant improvemnt in reception of various bands using an Omni over a discone ? Am about to mount a discone on my roof but am considering mounting both.

I prefer the Omni-X over the discone. While the discones are usually excellent antennas they are wide-band and that's not always a good thing. Neither design have any gain so that is not a deciding factor. If you're into mil-air, consider the Miltenna Omni VHF/UHF for your second antenna. I have one and it works very well.

I own both, switched via two way Daiwa switch and split-ted via Antsig VHF/UHF amplified antenna thingy, both feed via 5D-FB coax with short
30 cm pigtail to go via closed window. Recently reinstalled Diamond D130 is better on lower frequencies, then jury is still out on the rest. May post something soon after do some more testing. PS I don't have anything on 700-800 MHz in my location. Scanning mainly 75.xxx, Air, 144.xxx 420.xxx and 485.xxx all used in my area. Both excellent antennas, both pulling strong signals from local Airport some 18 kms away in straight line.

Thanks for the replies, I love milair but not much mil to speak of around my location so would probably like to concentrate on Detroit metro area LE comms.

I think I'll mount both, shame to miss out for only a $200 investment. So long as I get it done before winter sets in I'll be happy. My plan is to simply run separate coax for each antenna on a single mast [as I did when I had a discone and scantenna mounted], and run them from my roof to my room, about a 40 ft run.

Got this for my discone https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018PVVBS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 will likely get the same for the omni.

Maybe it is just the picture but it looks like the D130 is higher in the air than the Omni X?

Yes, it is but not that much, maybe 3 ft higher. I mounted Omni a long time ago on separate pole, then I decided to rig Diamond as well, it is mounted on extended pole above TV antenna as I din't want to screw another pole and stays on the metal roof. One of them will have to come down sooner or latter. Then I will also remove Daiwa switch and feed Coax directly to the Amp/Splitter. My 5D-FB Coax is about equivalent LMR 240 +/- spec, happened to I have some in the shed from Senao long range phones installations and antennas (long time ago), saved $$ on the coax, otherwise most likely I would go with Belden 9913 available here. But as many already said, receivers are one thing but good quality antennas and Coax and connectors is a must. One should be happy with any of the two antennas, specially in US where you don't use lower frequencies anymore. Its hard to tell them apart without specialised gear I don't have.

Got this for my discone Amazon.com: Wilson Electronics 50 ft. Black WILSON-400 Ultra Low Loss Coax Cable (N-Male to NMale): Cell Phones & Accessories will likely get the same for the omni.

There is a fair amount of MilAir, especially during exercises.

Which LE agencies are you interested in?
