On air cloning

My dog has decided to chew on my computer cable, that connects to the scanner. I've placed an order to Uniden, but the cable remains on a waiting list. And since the cable is built in a proprietary manner, no local electronic store can supply that style of cable right now. So my question is, can you use the USAD software with the Air Cloning procedures? And if so, has it been done and what was used to do it?

In reading the info about "ON AIR CLONING TRANSFERS" in the UASD Help Section, it appears that this process only works when you are doing "at least 2 radios...with one of them connected to your PC using the supplied data cable."

The section has some info on making a cable to go from your PC's sound card to a transmitter's Mic jack and tips to adjust the audio level to get it to work. The data indicates this is for the "SC230" radio (which I don't have) so I'm guessing this part of the technology has just been passed on to subsequent generations of Uniden's line.

Use the UASD's CONFIGURATION editor [MISCELLANEOUS tab] to use to match your xmtr's freq & modulation type.

I haven't tried it yet but thought that if I needed to do it I might be able to with a readily-available FRS xmtr that has a Mic jack.

It should work with any transmitter that a) has external audio input and b) can be received by the scanner. Legally it would be nice if you had a license to, and or it was legal to, transmit data on that frequency too.
