For the NYC Marathon, most of the unit ID numbers will be in the 64000 & 65000 range. This is based on listening to their traffic the past couple of days. As usual, they will most likely have about a dozen or so talkgroups for various functions.

Heard 100920 with radio traffic about the Long Island Marathon this past weekend. It sounded like course marshals and various event staff

Anyone know whose the primary user of the talk group or is it a rental talkgroup?

I have a new 700051 via the Helderberg site. Not enough traffic to know what type of user yet.

Does anyone know if this system is converting to a DMR Tier 3 system? I have heard very strong signals on frequencies that are known to be OneVoice sites:

477.775 Network 13, Site 1.2 - Same strength as Pomona
472.0375 Network 13, Site 1.3
454.20625 Network 13, Site 1.5 - Same strength as Alpine

I've come across a similar things while monitoring from Connecticut. I'm picking up 454.65625 Network 13, Site 1.6. I haven't crossed referenced the possible site yet but it is also a OneVoice frequency according to the DB.

Newbie - Amy I doing this right?

I just submitted the following for submission to the DB. Thought I'd throw it up here for any discussion while it waits for processing since I'm still new to this type of system. I guess I'm also asking, "am I doing this right?" given that the data I originally pulled from the database was a good start but is drastically different than what I ended up with to get it properly tracking.

"I have been playing with DSD+ and working to sort out the channel numbers for the sites that I can pick up for this system. I believe I have worked out the following sites for now as they appear to be properly tracking both with my DSD+ setup (2 dongles - one to decode and one to tune voice) as well as through scanning them with my BCD996P2 that has the DMR upgrade.

Site 9
Channel (LCN) 1 - 451.9375
Channel (LCN) 2 - 451.9375
Channel (LCN) 3 - 452.3625
Channel (LCN) 4 - 452.3625
Channel (LCN) 5 - 453.0125
Channel (LCN) 6 - 453.0125

ALL THREE Frequencies have acted as a control channel. They appear to switch once each day. I am still working out the color codes but I do think I have a pretty good idea now. I will submit that data after running the scanner a few more days.

Site 27
Channel (LCN) 15 - 454.31875
Channel (LCN) 16 - 454.31875
Channel (LCN) 21 - 454.45
Channel (LCN) 22 - 454.45
Channel (LCN) 27 - 454.575
Channel (LCN) 28 - 454.575

ALL THREE Frequencies have acted as a control channel. They appear to switch once each day. I am still working out the color codes but I do think I have a pretty good idea now. I will submit that data after running the scanner a few more days.

I am still new to understanding DMR and Connect Plus systems but I *think* they are using the two slots as different channels hence the redundancy. I can see (and hear) the system assigning the talkgroup to the channel number and have used DSD+ so confirm the LCN I'm seeing the talkgroup being pointed to does certainly have the voice data for that LCN. Hope this helps! There is about three more sites that I can monitor so I'll start to play with those as well. Thanks!"

Not my intent to take the wind from your sail.. But.

What you say you submitted is exactly what the DB currently already reflects. I don't think any of the info you just posted is in disagreement with what is actually posted to the RR DB (Just getting LCN & LSN's confused?)

Depending what kind of signal you are getting, you might be hearing part of the Marcus Communications TIII system. They use Hytera products (might see that noted in DSD+). Also, they usually encrypt the control channel, you can hear it, DSD+ reacts to it, but it shows no talkgroup/channel assignments.

You aren't taking the wind out of my sails at all. The main reason I posted this is that I was worried that I was missing something since DSD+ is showing "channels" and that doesn't match what I see in the DB. I figured you all would have had these figured out per se and reflected correctly in the DB.

However, if I don't put the frequencies in as I posted them, I'm not getting the audio. For example, DSD+ does not mention anything about 14 or 15 for Site 9. I must be missing something about LSN v. LCN as you suggested. Any additional hints for this newbie (as I admitted from the top), to get me back on path?

Thanks in advance for your time and help!

The OneVoice system has the ability to use Over The Air Programming (OTAP). This sends an updated frequency list to all subscribers that are monitoring the sites it is broadcast on. DSDPlus can copy this list and save it. Some of the information on RR comes from such a list. The issue comes when not all the frequencies licensed for a site are being used. The OTAP list shows them but they will never be captured by DSDPlus because that programs shows active channels. The company may not install the hardware at the sites until they add enough users to warrant doing it (fewer repeaters, less cost at a new site)
Now they are licensed and programmed but only need a repeater to be installed or turned on for expanded capacity.

If you follow the links provided next to those 2 sites, you'll see how LCN VS LSN is displayed in the RRDB. LCN's are what a scanner needs, LSN's are what DSD+ uses.

In DMR an LCN (A Single Freq) has 2 Slots or LSN's.

LCN 1 SLOT 1 = LSN 1
LCN 1 SLOT 2 = LSN 2
LCN 2 SLOT 1 = LSN 3
LCN 2 SLOT 2 = LSN 4

ect....

LCN 14 SLOT 1 = LSN 27
LCN 14 SLOT 2 = LSN 28
LCN 15 SLOT 1 = LSN 29
LCN 15 SLOT 2 = LSN 30

What you labeled LCN's in your original post are really the LSN's which can be converted to the LCN's and are displayed just that way on the RR DB Site Details page for any systems sites.

Site 9 https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?siteId=25205

451.937500 LCN 1 = LSN 1&2 Color Code 1
452.362500 LCN 2 = LSN 3&4 Color Code 2
453.012500 LCN 3 = LSN 5&6 Color Code 3
454.318750 LCN 14 = LSN 27&28 Color Code 14
454.331250 LCN 15 = LSN 29&30 Color Code 14

Site 27 https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?siteId=24035

454.318750 LCN 8 = LSN 15&16 Color Code 8
454.331250 LCN 9 = LSN 17&18 Color Code 9
454.443750 LCN 10 = LSN 19&20 Color Code 10
454.450000 LCN 11 = LSN 21&22 Color Code 11
454.456250 LCN 12 = LSN 23&24 Color Code 12
454.568750 LCN 13 = LSN 25&26 Color Code 13
454.575000 LCN 14 = LSN 27&28 Color Code 14
454.581250 LCN 15 = LSN 29&30 Color Code 15

:)

So the LCN needs to be correct for a scanner to trunk track the CC.
LSN's are used by DSD+.

Clear as mud am I.. But definitely you're on the right track..

Site 9 LCN 14 & 15 may have been obtained by an OTA repeater map, but they may not actually be in use at the current time. I'd keep them in my programming just in case they become active.

454.318750 LCN 14 = LSN 27&28 Color Code 14
454.331250 LCN 15 = LSN 29&30 Color Code 14

THANK YOU! This is exactly what I needed and I now fully understand the difference between LCN / LSN. That is a huge help! As I said, I was wondering why nothing I saw in the RRDB was matching what I was seeing within DSD+.

Regarding OTA Programming, does that typically come out once per day so that if I left DSD+ running all day there would be a chance I'd get the freq data that way or is the hunting and sleuthing I'm doing to tie in the frequencies (which I obviously didn't need to work so hard on for sites 9 and 27!) the only way to figure it all out?

Thanks again!

Every system admin handles OTA Programming as they see fit.

You might catch an OTA Repeater Map or not.
Could be daily, weekly, monthly, or none, or just when a change has been implemented.

Some will send one out on a regular basis, others only send one out when changes have been made to the system.

Sleuthing, just like your doing is sometimes the only way to figure things out.
Yes, you could have looked at the Site DB page and gotten all the info you painstakingly put together by yourself, Or you could snag an OTA file and get everything at once.
Bare in mind that an OTA file may have many frequencies listed that have not ever been used. (Nor will ever see use)

Most RRDB admins would be hesitant to submit an OTA file as gospel to the confirmed RRDB. Only frequencies that are actually confirmed in used should be getting into the official RRDB.

If an OTA file is snagged by a user, They should (at a minimum) post their findings to the forum to share with other interested parties, And they should be shared/updated on a wiki page.

This system is a great example of that..
https://wiki.radioreference.com/ind...l_Radio_Network_Site_Research_and_Color_Codes

If one is found for this system it should be posted here..
https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/OneVoice_Network
or perhaps on a new page..
https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/OneVoice_Network_OTA_Repeater_Map
or
https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/OneVoice_Network_Site_Research_and_Color_Codes
